問題:Is it always good to prolong the life of the terminally ill?

イントロ

Because of the development of the medical technology, many people tend to have longer life.
However, I do not think that it is good to prolong the terminally ill.
I have some reasons to support my opinion.

ボディ1

Firstly, having terminal ill longer means having more hard time for patients.
For example, my grandmother survived the four different cancers.
However, during the fight against the cancers, she lost her lady parts and her tongue and every time she eats, she needs to use a mixier because she cannot bite with her damaged mouth. For me, to be honest, I feel bad for my grandmother but sometimes it looks like living in the hell. If I have to live like this, I would rather die.

Secondly, having longer life means having bigger cost.
In Japan, it is said that the life span is like 100 years.
In other words, the people who help them are also 80 or 70 years old.
Many of them cannot afford other people’s treatment.
So it is a huge burden not only on the patients, but also on their loved ones

結論

Although it is a difficult problem to deal with ,for those reasons, I strongly believe that it is not always a good decision to have longer life with that kind of disease.

質問

・What can be done to make the final days of the terminal ill better?

The first thing we can do for the patients is relieving the pain and stress of the treatment. Like many cancers, many treatments for that kind of illness are painful.
If we find that we cannot handle the disease, there is no point to continue giving them pain.
So, we should let them free from suffering and let them have time with their loved ones.

・People are living longer these days. Do you think that’s a good thing?

I do not think that it is a good thing.
We need to focus more on the quality of life.
For example, if your life span is like one hundred years but for 50 years you have been sick and been in the bed, can you say that it is a good life?
I do not think so.
This is why, I do not think having longer life is not always good.

Do you believe that alternative medicine can be effective?

I think sometimes it works effectively but we need to be careful.
There is so much false information about the alternative medicine in social media and
If you get a wrong information, it might affect your health.
So not to get the false information, we need to be careful and if you would like to try that treatment, you should talk with the professionals.

・Is the current Japanese medical system a good ones?

Although some argue that European and American system are much better,
I think that Japanese medical system is also good.
For example, in the U.S during the pandemic a few years ago, the payment for the covid was a huge problem for the citizens. So, they chose not to go to the hospital, and it worsened the situation.
But in Japan, we just need to pay 30 percents for almost all treatment.
I know that some European countries have better system, but they also have much higher taxes.
So I think that Japanese medical system are relatively good.
