Cultural Differences Between Japan and the United States

Extensive dialogue transpired during the planning stages,
with participants noting the cultural differences between Japan and the United States.
At one point during the process of determining the symbol of Tokyo DisneySea,
those in Japan and the United States struggled to find a point of agreement.
But ultimately, after passionate yet constructive dialogue, 
both sides were able to draw forth a fitting symbol
that portrayed the "water planet" called the AquaSphere.

「transpire」は「happen」よりフォーマルな単語になっています。難しめの単語です。その次の「with」は「付帯状況のwith」になります。見抜けましたか？

「At ～,」までが副詞のカタマリで、「those」が主語になります。

 そして今回のポイントは「yet」です。「yet」は様々な意味がありますが、等位接続詞の使い方もあります。つまり、「and」や「but」みたいに語と語をつなぐことができるのです。

今回の文では「passionate」と「constructive」の形容詞を結んでいます。等位接続詞は、「For / And / Nor / But / Or / Yet / So」の７つがあります。「Fanboys」で覚えておきましょう！

時に協議は、日米の持つ文化的な背景の違いにまでおよびました。
「東京ディズニーシー」のシンボルを決める過程において、
日米の議論は一時平行線をたどりましたが、建設的で熱い議論を繰り返し、
導き出した答えは、"水の惑星 地球"を表現したアクアスフィアでした。

ちなみに、最初は「灯台」で行こうと提案されたようです。しかし、日本では「灯台」は暗いイメージがあるので変わったそうですね。
