ミスしがちな 数に関する英語表現

皆さん、こんにちは。今日は立春ですね。As of today, spring has just come, according to the calendar, but it is still cold and expected to snow in Tokyo Area, right?

　今回は、和文英訳や自由英作文を解答する時に、間違いがちな表現の特集です。と言っても一気に説明すると長くなるので、少しずついきたいと思います。今回は、1) 数の表現、2) 数の増減を表す表現、2) 倍数表現の注目ポイントを順に説明します。

1) 数の表現について `

　データを読み取って、　「〜する人もいれば、〜する人もいる」と英語で表現したい時、どうすればいいのでしょうか？

　オーソドックスな表現（学校でもよく学習する表現）として、
Some people like English, and (while / but) others like math.  がありますね。
　少しだけ説明を加えると、and でも while でもOKですが、両者の対比を明確にしたいときにはwhile、また、逆説の意味を込めて対比を表すなら but もありです。　

　問題は、グループが２つ以上の場合です・・・
　グループが３つある時はどうしましょう？つまり、「A する人もいれば、Bする人も、さらにはCする人がいる」のような場合・・・
Some people like English, some like math, and others like physics.
Some people like English, others like math, and still others like physics. 
のどちらもOKです。
　ただし、グループが３つしかない場合には、
Some people like English, some like math, and the others like physics.
Some people like English, others like math, and the others like physics.　
と、最後の others に「特定であること」を示す the をつけるのを忘れないでください。

　余分ですがもう少し続けます・・・
　グループが４つ（４つですべて）の場合はどうしましょう？
Some people like English, others like math, still others like physics, and the others like chemistry.　という表現がシンプルでいいと思います。
　それ以上の場合は、場合に応じてヴァリエーションを持たせて表現します。

2) 数の増減を表す表現について

・可算名詞で「～する数が増えている」「～する数が減っている」
以下の１〜４の文で、どの文がミス文でしょうか？
1. The number of students who use social platforms, so-called SNS, is increasing [decreasing] 
2. More and more [fewer and fewer] students are using social platforms, so-called SNS.    
3. There are more and more [fewer and fewer] students who use social platforms, so-called SNS,  
4. Students who use social platforms, so-called SNS, are increasing [decreasing].
