“I will appreciate”? or “I would appreciate”? 教えてくれたら幸いです 【英会話添削記録】

どうも！いつもプラス思考のアラフォーサラリーマン、Keiです。

仕事のメールで「〜していただければ幸いです」という言葉を使って無理難題を言ってくる人、いませんか。
金曜日の午後に「今日までにご提出いただければ幸いです」というメール。
こちらにとってはだいぶ不幸いですね。

さて、無理難題でもお願いできる魔法の言葉、「〜していただければ幸いです」を英語にするとどうなるでしょうか。

私は外国人の同僚に向けてお願いメールを送る際、“I will appreciate”と書くべきか“I would appreciate”とすべきか毎回のように迷っています。

ネットで調べてもよくわからなかったので、やはりここはネイティブの力を借りることにしました。

Hey Kei, that is a great question.
On the surface, "will" and "would" can be used interchangeably here, which means both work.

The one thing though, is you need to add the "it", there needs to be an object here.
"I would appreciate it if you could do it"
"I will appreciate it if you can do it"
We have to put "it" here.
"I will appreciate if", "I would appreciate if", is not normal English.
So you need to add an object directly after appreciate.

"I will appreciate it", "I would appreciate it if you could", both of them mean the same thing.
So in English, you can use both.
English speakers would use both interchangeably.

Kei、いい質問ですね。
"will" と"would"は置き換え可能です。どちらも通じます。

ひとつ言わせてもらうと、（"appreciate"のあとに）目的語となる"it"を付け加える必要があります。
"I would appreciate it if you could do it."や
"I will appreciate it if you can do it."
というように、"it" をつけなければなりません。
"I will appreciate if"や"I would appreciate if"は正しい英語ではありません。
"appreciate"のあとには目的語をつける必要があるのです。

"I will appreciate it"も "I would appreciate it if you could"も同じ意味になります。英語ではどちらも使用可能です。
英語話者は両方を置き換え可能なものとして使用します。

結論。どちらでもよい、とのこと。

この「“will appreciate” or “would appreciate”」問題、個人的にわりと悩んでいたんですよね。
あるアメリカ人からのメールでは“I would appreciate”となっていたので、「今まで“I will appreciate”と書いていたのは間違いだったのだろうか」と思ったりもしていました。

しかし、ネイティブ講師曰くどちらでもよいとのこと。
早く聞いておけばよかったです。

それとは別に、今までまったく気にしていなかったことを指摘されてしまいました。
“I will appreciate if you can”は正しくなく、I will appreciate it if you can”というように"appreciate"の後には”it”を付けなければいけなかったんですね。
これは完全に盲点でした。

“appreciate”を「感謝する」の意味で使用する場合は他動詞になるので、目的語が必要ですね。
今回の例では“it”が”if…”以下を指す目的語として必要、ということですね。
"will"なのか"would"なのかという気にしなくてもいいところを気にするあまり、初歩的な文法ミスに気づいていなかったです。

いえ、質問したことによって自分ではまったく意識していなかったミスに気づくことができてよかったじゃないか、とポジティブに捉えましょう。
