毎日読んで100万語No0005　聖書からの引用

このブログは、私の学習ノートを公開したものです。英文多読のためにニュース記事、小説、エッセイ、webなどの英文を元にして読みやすく編集しています。毎日読むだけで、英文多読のトレーニングになります。英検3級を超える単語については、太字にしています。
　なお今回とりあげる、聖書の名言は英文多読の学習では、欧米人の教養の素養となっています。多くの引用や暗黙の知識として前提とされることが多いため、ボキャブラリーの強化の教材として省くことはできません。
　ちなみに、私はキリスト教の信者ではありませんが、文化の理解には聖書の名言を知っておくことが不可欠であると考えています。

【英文素読み】

Genesis 1:1

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day."

「初めに、神は天と地を創造された。地は形がなく、空虚で、闇が深淵の表にあり、神の霊が水の表を動いていた。神は言われた、『光あれ。』すると光があった。神は光を見て、良しとされた。そして神は光を闇から分けられた。神は光を昼と呼び、闇を夜と呼ばれた。夕べがあり、朝があった。これが第一の日である。」

Psalm 23:1-4

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
