知ってほしい「さくらねこ」

Have you ever heard of the "Sakura Neko"? They are stray cats that have been captured, neutered, and have had the tips of their ears cut to look like cherry blossom petals. This "Sakura Neko" is being carried out by people who are involved in community cat activities aiming for zero killings.

“さくらねこ”をご存知でしょうか。捕獲されて去勢手術を受けて、耳の先端をさくらの花びらのようにカットされた野良猫のことです。この“さくらねこ”は殺処分ゼロを目指す地域猫活動に取り組む人たちによって行われています。

---What is the "Sakura Neko"?---

It is called "Sakura Neko" because the cut part looks like a "Sakura". This "Sakura Neko" is a cat that has been captured, neutered, and returned to the community.

「さくらねこ」とは？カットした部分が"さくら"のような形なので“さくらねこ”と呼ばれています。この“さくらねこ”、捕獲されたあとに去勢手術を受けて地域に戻された猫なのです。

The cats have been spayed or neutered so that if they are not marked, there is a possibility that they will be captured again by a protection group engaged in community cat activities.

目印をつけておかなければ、再び地域猫活動を行う保護団体に捕獲されてしまう可能性があるため、不妊・去勢手術を受けたことがわかるようにしています。

Cats are very fertile, so leaving stray cats unattended will increase the number of cats that will be killed. Therefore, in order to control the increase of stray cats, protection groups capture them, neuter them, and return them to the community as "Sakura Neko" with their markings.

猫は繁殖力が高いため、野良猫を放っておくと殺処分される数も増加します。そこで野良猫が増えるのを抑制するため、保護団体が捕獲して去勢手術を行い、目印をつけた“さくらねこ”として地域に戻しているのです。

---What is TNR?---

TNR stands for "Trap, Neuter, and Return". TNR is the term for "Trap, Neuter and Return," and is an activity to prevent breeding and reduce the number of cats being killed, so that the cats in the area will not have kittens and will live only one life.

「Trap（捕獲し），Neuter（不妊去勢手術を行い），Return（元の場所に戻す）」ことです。そうすることにより、その場所にいる猫達が子猫を産まず一代限りの命を全うし、繁殖を防止し，殺処分を減少させる活動です。

---The "Doubutu kikin" offers free surgeries---

At the "Doubutu kikin", stray cats can receive free surgeries. First, volunteers from the community apply to the "Doubutu kikin", and if the application is approved, a ticket is issued. Once the application is approved, a ticket is issued, and if the volunteer brings the ticket to the cooperating veterinary hospital, the cat can receive the surgery free of charge. The "Doubutu kikin" will pay the veterinary hospital at a later date. The cost of these surgeries is mainly covered by donations.

無料で手術を受けられる「どうぶつ基金」:「どうぶつ基金」では、野良猫たちが無料で手術を受けられます。まず地域のボランティアが「どうぶつ基金」に申請し、審査に通ると、チケットが発行されます。このチケットを協力動物病院に持参すれば、無料で手術が受けられます。動物病院には後日、どうぶつ基金から費用を支払います。そしてこうした手術費用は、おもに寄付金で成り立っています。
