大刀剣市での刀箱師ブースの当日の状況や出店を終えての所感について書いています。

■出展者から②　大刀剣市初出店を終えて　中村圭佑（刀箱師）
刀箱師（かたなはこし）として刀の展示ケースを製作している中村圭佑と申します。
この度大刀剣市に初出店させて頂きました。
出店にあたり多くの刀剣店の皆様からのご指導ご鞭撻を賜りやり遂げる事が出来ました。誠にありがとうございます。

大刀剣市出店は私が刀箱師として活動をスタートした4年前からずっと目標にしてきた事であり、今回貴重なチャンスを頂けましたこと心より感謝申し上げます。
注文も10台ほど頂く事ができ、何より沢山の来場者の方と対面でお話出来た事は、とても実りの多い経験となりました。

さて私は普段刀の展示ケースを製作する傍ら、刀についてのブログを毎日書いたり、Twitterやfacebook、instagramといったSNSで「刀のある暮らし」について発信しています。
素人の視点で刀の魅力を多くの方、特にまだ刀を所持していない初心者の方に届けたいという思いから始めた事です。
肌感覚ではありますが、国内外問わず今回私のブースに来て下さった方の7割ほどは私のSNSを見て下さっていた印象です。
改めてSNSの重要度を認識した次第であります。

ブースに来て下さった方には制作したカタログを配布させて頂きましたが、その減り具合から恐らく3日間で500名程がブースに来て下さったと思います。中には何度も来て下さったり、「○○で刀や刀装具を買ったよ」と物を持ってきて展示ケースに飾って下さる方も多くいらっしゃり、私としても愛刀家の方々との交流を楽しめました。

一方で海外では既に私の刀展示ケースの見た目だけを完全に真似た模倣品を製作している方もおり、会場で細かい情報を吸い出そうとする方もいました。この事態は公の場に出す上で予想はしていたものの、模倣品が本歌を越える事はないので私としても張り合いがありません。
完全に真似するのではなく是非オリジナルの物を製作して頂いてお互いに競い合いたいものです。
また、大刀剣市では来場者の中心は例年60代以上の男性が多い印象でしたので、金庫や刀箪笥での保管が当たり前という感覚の所に、部屋に刀身を飾るという試みを提案する事そのものに酷評も多く頂くだろうと覚悟をしていました。
しかし予想とは裏腹に、「面白いね、良いね、綺麗だね、考えられてるね」などと言ったポジティブな意見をその世代の方からも頂けた事は予想に反して嬉しかったです。

これからも「刀とくらす。」というコンセプトとのもと、日常で愛刀を楽しめる空間を作り出していきます。
今の子供達が日常で刀の美しさに気づける場所や機会、そんな偶然の刀との出会いの場を作り広めていく事が10年20年先の愛刀家を生むと私は信じています。
床の間がなくなり刀を飾るスペースが無くなったのなら今の住宅に合う物を作ればいい。

日本の文化であり魂として伝えられてきた日本刀の魅力を是非多くの日本人にもう一度気づいてほしく思います。
来年も大刀剣市に出展して良いと言って頂けるよう、次の一年もまた精進いたします。

■After DTI's First Exhibit　Keisuke Nakamura(刀箱師 katana case shi）
My name is Keisuke Nakamura, and I am a katana display case maker "刀箱師(katana case shi)" who produces display cases for katanas.
I was recently given the opportunity to participate in DTI for the first time. With the guidance and encouragement from many katana shops, I was able to achieve my goal. Thank you very much.

Participating in DTI has been my goal for the four years since I started as a katana case shi, and I am deeply grateful for this valuable opportunity.
I received orders for around 10 cases, and it was a very fruitful experience to meet and talk with many visitors.

In addition to making katana display cases, I also write a daily blog about katanas and share my thoughts on "Living with a katana" on social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Many visitors came multiple times and brought katanas or tosogu to display in my katana display case, and I enjoyed exchanging with katana enthusiasts. On the other hand, there were also those who made imitation products that completely copied my katana display case appearance overseas, and those who tried to extract detailed information at the venue.
This situation was something I expected to happen, but imitation products cannot surpass the original, so I do not feel challenged. Instead, I would like　you to compete by creating original pieces, not just imitating them.

Additionally, I had prepared for criticism for my proposal to display the katana in the room, as many visitors to the DTI are typically older men in their 60s or above who are used to keeping their blades in a katana cabinet or tansu chest. However, to my surprise, I received positive feedback such as "interesting," "good," "beautiful," "well-thought-out," from that age group, which made me happy.
From now on, I will continue to create a space where people can enjoy their katanas in their daily life under the concept of "Living with a KATANA."
I believe that by creating opportunities and spaces for children to appreciate the beauty of katanas in their daily lives, I can produce more katana enthusiasts in the future.
If the traditional tatami mat rooms are no longer there and there is no space to display the blades, I can create pieces that fit in modern homes.
I hope more people will rediscover the charm of the Japanese swords, which has been passed down as a part of Japanese culture and soul.
I will continue to strive for improvement so I can participate in the DTI again next year and receive positive feedback.

これからも「刀とくらす。」をコンセプトに日本刀を日々の暮らしの中で楽しみ守りながら、周囲の人も刀の魅力に気づいてくれるような展示ケースを製作していきます。
