Coincident or inevitable?~なんて偶然的な再会

いっきに、あの時に引き戻られた感覚。

時は２００２年、シドニー。

「ウォーキング・オン・ウォーター」という 劇場映画のスチール撮影をしていた。

そこで、同じくスチールをしていたウィリアム・ヤングに会った。

僕は彼のことをすでに知っていた。

シドニーではかなりの有名人だったのだ。

ゲイシーンが華やかだった７０年代頃から、ゲイたちの写真を客観的だけど、深い愛情を持って撮り続けていた。

実際に会ったウィリアムはカメラを２～３ぶら下げ、にこにこ笑いながらセットで写真を撮っていた。

あったかい人だな、という印象だった。

さて、時代は１８年飛び本日のケアンズでのこと。

急に、ギャラリーに行きたくなり、ふと寄ったら、なんとウィリアム・ヤングの写真展がやっているではないか！

うわ。なつかしいな。

すぐに「ウォーキング・オン・ウォーター」を思い出した。あの頃は映画のスチールやっていたなあ。

それで、彼の作品を見ると、「え。ウィリアムってテーブルランドで生まれたの！」

びっくりです。

それにしても、なんて偶然的な再会。

人生っておもしろい。

On a sunny Monday I just felt popping up Cairns regional galley when we were crossing the street.

"William Yang show is on"

A friendly receptionist said to me.

I do know this photographer. Actually I worked together before.

Back in Sydney era, I was involved in a film called "Walking On Water" as Still photographer. William was in the set as still photographer too.

I knew him before as he was well-known as soon as I came to Sydney. I saw his photos often in several galleries and I was attracted by his photographic style.

They were realistic but at same time, shining with his strong love.

That's why I was excited to see him on the set.

Walking On Water was released on 2002. Wow. 18 years ago.

Then this morning I met William Yang’s photos in Cairns where I moved in 2014.

When I reached his photographic area, my mind seems to go back to Sydney era. Also I remember the moment of Walking On Water and some other films which I was involved.

Then I found William was born in suburb of Tableland. I thought he was brought up in Sydney so I was surprised.

Is this Coincident or inevitable?

I guess both.
