#87 ポケベルって何？( What do you think is "Pager"）

朝起きてまず最初にすること、メガネと携帯を探す。それって僕だけでしょうか。まずメガネが見つからないと結構焦ります。夜中に僕は何をしていたのか。。。絶対に寝る直前までメガネを掛けていたはずなのに。しかし僕も45歳もう自分が何をしたのかわからないくらいで焦る年頃ではないのです。まず、いろいろなところにぶつかりながら、仕事机の方に向かい仕事机においてあるだろうパソコンを見る用の弱めのメガネを見つけ、それをかけて寝室で通常の眼鏡を探します。

まあ、僕くらいになると仕事机にあるはずのメガネも見当たらなくて、引き出しを開けて運動用の使い捨てのコンタクトレンズを、メガネを探すためだけに開けたこともあります。。。そしてようやく携帯電話にたどり着くのです。携帯電話でメールやメッセージをチェックして、ジョギングの準備に入ります。あれ、いつからこんな生活になったんだっけ？

こんなブログを書くために、世の中で発信されている調査のデータを見て回っているとたまに胸熱なデータを発見することがあります。上記は株式会社SheepDogが2022年に現在の15歳から29歳までの年代の方にポケベルという機器をしっているかを訪ねた結果になります。なんでこんな調査を打ちたくなったんだろう。。。いや、そう携帯の前、大学時代にはポケベルを使ってました。すでにひらがなが表示できるポケベルだったので、いろいろなメッセージをやり取りした大学時代を思い出します。なんで知りたくなったのかは分かりませんが、胸熱な調査。楽しい。

上記の調査によると若年層でも約80%の人は少なくともポケベルを知っているという結果になりました。。。なんでだろう。やはり我々のような初老の選手が思い出話で話しているからだろうか。絶対に見たことはないよね、と思っていたら約23%の人は見たこともあると。恐るべし。でも、家の電話しかコミュニケーションの手段がなかった時代に、外で繋がれるようになったあの感動は今のスマホ世代が最初にスマホを持ったときの感動に近い気もするのですがどうでしょう？いまから考えたらそこまでメッセージを打つために電話に張り付くなら、電話すればいいのにって思ったりも。。。いや多分あのメッセージを待っている甘酸っぱさを求めていたに違いない。たぶん。

What I do first after waking up is searching for my glasses. I often get confused since I can not find them. Well, I definitely had them right before falling in to sleep. But I'm mature 45 years old. I won't get upset by just not finding glasses. I try to find the spare glasses which is supposed to be at my desk. Then I go back to my bed room to find my normal glasses.

It happens that I can not even find my spare glasses… Then I open the drawer to pick up my daily contact lens and wear them just to find my glasses… Then I finally reach to my smartphone. I check my emails/messages and prepare to go jogging. Ummm I'm too used to this life but from when??

I sometimes find very … "hot" data when I look around published reports to write this blog. SheepDog INC. (2022) shows the result of the questions asked for 15-29 y.o. younger generation if they no "pager". I'm wondering how many of you guys know this. There was a small ringing devise called pager. You push numbers from home phone followed by message numbers. Then the message will be shown to the very small screen. Why the publisher wanted to research about this in 2022… But yes this reminds me of my wonderful university days!

The report shows that around 80% of people know about it… Why?? Is that because old people like me tell the old story to youngers? Definitely they have never used it, right? I can not explain well about the surprise that we could receive messages outside of house. Well, actually we stay in front of the phone to keep messaging each other. So why we didn't really call… But I still remember the feeling that I was kind of excited to wait for the message from special someone… if I remember correctly… Thank you very much for the research which brings me back to my happy days.
