#105 日本のお葬式データ (Funeral ceremony in Japan)

なんというか、ある調査を見て昔を思い出しました。そう私、学生時代お葬式屋さん（？）でアルバイトをしていたことがあるのです。正確にはお葬式業界専門のアルバイト派遣会社。日雇い的な感じで、葬儀屋さんに派遣されたり、葬儀専門のお花屋さんに派遣されたり。お陰で葬儀に使われるお花だけ詳しくなりました（残念）。

基本的には葬儀の準備、片付け全般なのですが、そのためにトラックを運転したりもしました。昔の普通免許は４トントラックくらいまで運転できたのです（今は駄目らしいと聞いています）。その頃とは大分様子も変わっているようなので、調査のデータをじっくり読み込んでしまいました。

株式会社鎌倉新書(2022)によると、コロナの規制を受けてやはり葬儀の形態も大きく変化したらしいです。一般の参列者が多く来る一般葬は避けられて、家族葬が大幅に増えています。まあ、そりゃそうか。大人数ではあつまれなかったですもんね。それでも果敢に一般葬をした方も26%いたということらしい。悩んだでしょうね。。。ご苦労様でした。本当に。

鎌倉新書の調査は実は５回目で結構長いデータがあるのです。それによると実はコロナ以前から葬儀の平均参列者数は減少傾向であったということ。お葬式は最近１０年でけっこう小さくなっていたのですね。平均が下がったというのはどういうことだったんだろう？全体的に小さくなったのか、やたら大きくて平均値を押し上げそうなものがなくなったのか。なんか昔の芸能人の方のような築地の本願寺貸し切りみたいなものはあまり聞かなくなったような気もします。いや、僕が日本にいないから聞かないだけかも。。。どうだ？

Well, one research reminds me of my university days. Yes, I worked in funeral industry (Part time). Isn't it interesting? Exactly speaking I didn't work in funeral company but temp staff agency which specialized in funeral industry. I don't know about the other country but it is widely accepted in Japan. Funeral companies are normally small, so the rent staffs from them when they are busy. 

Basically tasks are preparation of the ceremony and cleaning up after it. To do so, we are required to drive a huge 4t truck. It was fun! Well, old, standard driving license allowed us to drive 4t truck while you can not do it with a new license (If I'm not wrong). I heard that funeral ceremony doesn't look the same as before, so I was so interesting is reading the report.

According to Kamakura Shinsho, Ltd. (2022), format of funeral ceremony has changed due to COVID regulation. General funeral which many participants join were no longer popular and family funeral increased its share instead. Ok, it is understandable. It was so difficult and troublesome to organize a big ceremony under COVID. But is seems, 26% tried to have the bigger one and made it. 

Actually this survey is the 5th one and Kamakura Shinsho, Ltd. has long trend data about funerals. According to it, funeral ceremony in Japan is getting smaller even before COVID. It seems average participants of 78 in 2012 became 55 in 2019. What does it mean by smaller in average? Most of funerals is smaller than before or few very big ones are not held any more? As far as I remember, Tsukiji Hongwanji Buddhist Temple is one of the biggest and famous funeral place for celebrities. But don't hear the name recently. Well maybe because I don't live in Japan for a long time… Sorry.
