#28 中間管理職ってつらい (Sad to be a middle manager)

中間管理職ってなんか悲しい響きありますよね。そうでもないのだろうか。出世をした人で、ある意味順調な人のはずなのになぜか物悲しい、そんな単語、中間管理職。何が良くないんだろうか、「中間」がなんか悪さをしているのか、別の単語につけてもやっぱり物悲しくなるのだろうか。付けてみよう。

「中間」高校生。まあ、あんまり意味がよくわからないし、なんなら少し元気そうな感じもする。「中間」ドラえもん。やはり、あまり意味はよくわからないが、なんか間に入って色々助けてくれそう。「中間」お父さん。あ、ちょっと、なんか物悲しさ出てきた。なんでだ。

だとするとやはり「中間」と「管理職」の組み合わせが、なんとも言えない雰囲気を生んでいるのかもしれない。

そんな疑問を解消すべく（もちろんそうではない）、Biz Hits (2021) は「中間管理職ってつらい」と思うとき、という調査を敢行しています。「板挟みになるとき」が圧勝の１位。あー、様子が痛いほど目に浮かぶ。

怒りっぽい上司（偏見）の攻撃を一身に受けて耐え忍ぶと、背中から部下の不満攻撃も受ける悲しき中間管理職。なんならたくさん仕事を渡したい上司と、働き方改革に挟まれて、一人残業する中間管理職。

ちなみに世の中の役職についていない正社員のうち約８割の人が、管理職にはなりたくないと考えているようです（Manpower group,2020）。あー、なんか悲しい記事になってしまった。

"Middle manager" in Japanese has a bit of "sad" feeling. I don't know the reason why but it certainly has. It has to be the word to describe a person who got promoted but it is still not "encouraging" enough. I'm wondering what would be the reason why? Does "middle " do something wrong? Does this creates "sad" feeling even with other words except for "manager"? Let's have a try.

"Middle" students. Well, it doesn't make any sense. But it even has some cheerful flavor in it. "Middle" Doraemon (*1). Also it doesn't make a lot of sense but I can somehow feel that it helps us a lot in between you and troubles. "Middle" father. Ops. In Japanese,,, this creates strange, not cheerful meaning. Why...

OK, now I got to think that the issue is the combination of "middle" and "manager". 

Biz Hints (2021) disclosed "What's tough to be a middle manager" to answer to my question (of course not). "Being in between boss and members" ranked as the top winner in the list which is not that difficult to imagine.

You stand against your emotional boss's words and then hit by your members complaint from behind your back sadly. Interestingly in Japan there can be middle managers who get orders more than the capability but can not pass it to their juniors because executive protection policy. Then they work overtime to finish them... (All are from my wild imagination).

In the end, it seems around 80% of full time employees think that they don't want to be a manager in Japan （Manpower group,2020）. Umm it seems I wrote such a sad entry today. So sad.
