#134 世界猫の日：犬猫データ(international cat day: Cats against dogs...)

世界猫の日というのがありました。昨日でした。。。いつもながらやや乗り遅れ感がありますね。どうりでGoogle検索ページのマークが猫っぽかったのか。ちなみに一日明けて本日は黒田清輝さんに大きく様変わりしてました。コロナ禍でYoutubeに浸かっていた僕は、もっぱら猫動画を眺めるようになりました。今や猫派と言っても過言ではない（過言かもしれない）。

そう言われてみると最近知り合いで猫を飼い始めた、という人が多い気もする（気のせいかもしれない）。日本伝統の犬派、猫派の戦いはどうなっているのだろう？Youtubeで「犬」と検索して出てきた動画で一番再生数が多かったものが、8700万回。「猫」で検索すると、うん？3.7億回、猫圧勝。完全に異常値です。タイトルは猫vs伊勢海老。。。確かにそそる。

ちなみに上のグラフは一般社団法人ペットフード協会が2022年に発表した、犬猫の飼育頭数推計の年推移になります。勝手に日本では犬のほうが人気と思っていましたが、僕がシンガポールにいる間に逆転し今では猫圧勝。知らなかった。。。特に2017年と2021年で猫が大きく勢力（？）を伸ばしている様子。2021年はなんかコロナで家にいるようになって猫を買う人が増えたみたいなことは分かる気がする。2017年にはあまり心当たりがない（日本にいないからでしょ）。みなさまの方で何か心当たりはないでしょうか？

今や飼われている犬の頭数は年々減っているんですね。は！ひょっとして高齢化社会と関係合ったりするのでしょうか。犬はお散歩が大変だからとか。。。犬が人間に飼われたくなくなってるみたいな話だったら面白いですね。犬が主導権を握ってる社会。ちょっと見てみたいかも。

It was international cat day. Yesterday…. I'm always a bit out dated. No wonder google logo yesterday was cats. By the way, the logo is the past artist "Kuroda Seki" today. So different. Actually I have been so into Cat videos in Youtube under pandemic. It is not too much to say that I'm a cat person (maybe too much).

I heard from few Japanese friends that they had a cat, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe my wrong memory. Now I'm wondering how the traditional (?) dog vs cat battle is going. When I search for "犬 " (a dog) in YouTube, the most viewed video is around 87 million view. For cats, it is … 370 million!! Cat won. There is a big gap and the title of the cat video is "Japanese spiny lobster vs Cat". Well so attractive. I'll watch it later definitely.

The chart above if the yearly trend of dog and cat population in Japan by Japan pet food association (2022). I personally thought dogs are more popular than cats in Japan but it seems cats are much stronger(?) now! I didn't know that. While I'm in Singapore for 10 years, the market has changed a lot. There are 2 spikes for cats population in 2017 and 2021. I do understand for 2021 which is the life style change by COVID. I guess many people felt lonely being at home. However I have no idea for 2017… Maybe just because I was not in Japan. Do you have any idea?

Ummm, interestingly dog population is in down trend for a long time. Is that because of aging society? Is it too tough to go walking everyday for elders (maybe). Or… It would be fun if it is just the rejection from dog side. Dogs do not want to be with human anymore (sad). I'm honestly interested in the society which dogs are taking a lead… We are serving to a dog. A bit scary…
