#197 会議が多い？議事録が面倒？ (Too frequent business meeting in Japan?)

いま２月が終わろうとしていることに驚愕しています。え、ちょっと日本で忙しくしていたとは言え、、、早すぎないですか？一年のほぼ六分の一が終わろうとしている。いや、これは色々イベントが有って楽しかったからに違いない（願望）。北海道行ったし、社員旅行で（ふふふふっ）。そう、２日間ではありましたが、２キロ太る程度には満喫しました。。。さて、仕事仕事。

最近日本に行って本社メンバーとも話す機会が多い僕は、そういえば日本本社にいたときと今で何が違うかって考えることがありました。いや、うちのシンガポールオフィスではそうですね、平均するとみんな３日か４日オフィスに来ているっていう感じでしょうか。一方日本のメンバーは会社にあまり来ないので捕まえるのが結構大変。そしてカレンダーをみるとみんな一日中会議。そう日本にいるときに比べると会議減ったなぁ。

上のデータはキヤノンマーケティングジャパン株式会社（2023）による、会議と議事録に関する調査データです。これを見ると、、、いろいろうちの社内と違うなと。まず会議の参加頻度（左の図）は週５回以上というのが11%。うーん、少ない（感覚がバグっている）。僕が知っている日本メンバーで週の会議数が５回以内で終わっている人みたことない。これは、、、うちの会社に何か問題が？？！（笑）みんな意外と少ないんだなぁ。まあ、職種にもよるか。うちもクライアント担当をしていない人ならもっと少ないかも。

一方、これはどういう聞き方をしたのか気になるところではありますが、なんと会議に出た人で１週間に議事録作成に使う時間は週平均6.1時間。え？一日１時間以上？？そんなことあるかしら、これも弊社内の非常識なのでしょうか。ちなみに若い人ほどかける時間が長いあたりが、議事録は若い人の仕事、感がでていて微笑ましい（？）です。いやー、それにしても一日一時間か、、、ほんとかな。みなさんの会社はどうでしょう？

I'm so surprised to say that February is almost finished. Isn't it too fast? 1/6 of this year has passed Well, maybe I had many fun events in this year including both private and business(Hopefully)? Yes I actually went to Hokkaido for company trip (Are you jealous??). Only 2 nights but I enjoyed a lot that I gained 2KG after the trip… Yes It time to work! Hahahaha.

Recently, I go back to Japan often and talk to members in Japan office. I'm wondering if there is any difference in working style in Japan office and us. While Singapore members come to the office around 3 days per week, Japan members seldom come to the office. To meet up with them, I have to check their schedule and book their schedule. Basically everybody is always in the meeting… I think frequency of meeting is so less now than when I was in Tokyo…

Canon Marketing Japan Inc. (2023), Business meeting & minutes research, shows many difference in common sense in my company and other Japanese companies. First of all, the left chart shows that "only" 11% of business person have more than 5 meetings in a week… Ops, that is less (From my company perception). I guess Japanese companies are known for many unproductive meetings (!) but my company follows that. I have never seen my colleagues who has less than 5 meetings in a week in Japan. I'm surprised that that is much lesser in general. Well, of course it depends on your role.

On the other hand, within those who participated to the meeting, they spend average 6.1 hour for writing minutes!!? This is surprising. more than 1 hour per day!! Is this true? I'm wondering how the actual question would be but maybe it the the case in other companies. I don't think we do it in our Japan office. It is agreeable to see youngers spend more time than elders. I guess it can be seen in Singapore too. Well, 1 hour per day. How is the situation in your company??
