#104 上司との関係国際比較 (Relationship with your boss, international comparison)

皆さんこんばんは土曜日です。普段は朝早く起きてジョギングに行っているのになぜか、まあゆっくりでもいいかとなってしまう土曜日です。お昼に行ったら暑いって分かっているのに、、、

実はこの記事は行きつけのカフェで書いています。何しろコロナ規制がかかっていた間、家で働くのが気が進まなくて、毎日のように通い、朝から晩まで居させていただいた頭の上がらないカフェでございます。規制の状況下で一度ここからは戻るかもという時期に採用を増やしたら、その後すぐに規制が厳しくなってお客さんがガクッと減って以来怖くて採用ができずマネージャー陣のみで全てのオペレーションをこなしていたらしいのです。

規制が大幅にゆるまり、採用をはじめてようやく落ち着いて来たらしいのですが、最近は部下とのコミュニケーションと離職に悩んでいるとのこと。韓国人で母国語ではない言語でのマネージメント、そして急に人数が増えた部下との距離をどのように詰めたらいいのか。うーん、全く他人事じゃなく、40分ほど話し込んでしまいました。

いい上司だなー、がんばってほしいなぁ、と思いつつそういえば上司との関係性って結構国によって違うだろうなと思い、調べてみました。上のグラフは少し古いですが、コーチング研究所が2015年に発表した上司との関係性の良好度の比較のようです。えーっと。いやいや。このまま真に受けてはいけません。このような意識項目の国際比較は結構難しいのです。簡単にトップにつける国もあれば（インドなどは有名です）、なかなかトップにつけないので有名な国もあります（日本が有名です）。

いや、それにしてもダントツの再会ですね。３がどちらかというと良好、２がどちらかというと良好ではない。なんか、比較のしにくいスコアではあるけれど、なんか聞かれたときに「上司との関係？いいよ！」って応えられるのはそれなりに羨ましいというか、気持ちいい文化だなと思います。これをみると悩んじゃうな、自分はいい関係だと思っていても、メンバーからはいまいちって思われてるかもしれない。すみません、本当に。。。

Hi all. Its Saturday today. I basically go jogging in the morning but somehow I feel lazy to do it on weekend. Even if I knew that its very hot to do it at day time in Singapore… My brain doesn't work reasonably on weekend.

I'm at the café where I visited almost everyday during COVID restriction. I was there almost whole day from 9am to around 5pm. I can not appreciate more to them.
Once the COVID regulation was eased it seems they hired many people to prepare for normal life but right after that the regulation became stricter and they didn't have enough customers to feed their new employees. After that they are scared of hiring and run the shop by only managers.

Now the COVID regulation has almost gone and the café is very cloudy now. They almost finished hiring then one of the manager told me that she has concerns with turn over and communication with the new members. Korean lady working overseas, has to manage people with 2nd language, I know how difficult it is from my own experience. We had 40minutes discussion at the café… feel sorry for disturbing her work.

While I though that she is such a good boss from my veiw and I really want her to be confident, I considered that the relationship with your boss would be so different across cultures. CRI (2015) compares how good the relationship is with your boss (Chart above). Well,,,, No, no. You should simply take this chart that Japan's score is too low compared with other countries (Well, it might be). It is a bit difficult to compare scale questions about people's perception. Japanese is known for people who seldom score at the top. Google map restaurant review seems to be very low even for the top level restaurant in Japan for example.

But… Still Japan is the lowest… (Feel bad). 3 is not bad, 2 is not good. I know they are not supposed to be compared but I'm just jealous of the culture which you can answer simply "GOOD" when people ask about the relationship with you boss. Well now I'm a bit scared of the perception gap with  members in Japan. When I feel that the relationship with them is good, many of them actually think that it is not that good (So sorry…)
