#196 愛のあふれる日バレンタイン (How Valentine's day works in Japan)

いやー、すっかりブログの更新が抜けてました。体調を崩し（前回参照）、日本で部屋を借り、準備をととのえ気がついたらなんと新年が明けてから１ヶ月半が過ぎてました。早すぎる。そうなんです１ヶ月半が立ちました、新年の抱負は続いていますでしょうか（笑）今年は新年の抱負を立てる時間がなかったので、まさかの"今日"更新しました。これはもう新年の抱負とはいえないけど、１２月までがんばって見ようと思います。みなさんは、、、まだ続いてますよね？ね？（始まっていない人より）

さてみなさん、最近大事な（？）日がありましたね。そうバレンタインです。一般的には愛のあふれる日、、、日本では女性がチョコレートを準備（？）、海外だと男性がお花を準備みたいな感じの認識でしょうか？コロナ前のシンガポールだと、夕方には一輪のバラを持った女性を見かけることが多かったような。（多分）

みなさん、左のグラフを見てどう思いましたか？上の図はナイル株式会社が2023年に行ったバレンタインに関する意識調査の結果になります。プレゼントを用意すると答えた人は女性で49%。まあまあまあ。日本の伝統（？）を考えればこんなもんですよねと思ったのですが、実は男性陣でも31%！これはもはやバレンタインが女性から男性へのアプローチであるという概念は捨てたほうが良いのかも。ただ質問が「自分へのプレゼントも含めて」というのがトリッキーではある。ある。この中に自分で買った人がどれだけ入ってるんだろう。。。

ちなみに買ったものはチョコレートがダントツで89%。男性がチョコレートを自分用のプレゼントに買っている可能性も捨てきれない（捨てきれない）。僕だったら、、、自分用のチョコレートはこの日を避けて買いたい気はするけど。今年は弊社シンガポールオフィスでは女性陣にお花とチョコレートをプレゼントし、喜んでいただけたので男性からのプレゼントは全然ありですよね。今年も愛のある一年になりますように。

Its been a while posting a blog. It took me a little while to get recovered from unwell and I rent an empty room in Japan, prepared all equipment to survive there. Then one and half month has passed just so quickly!  Now I found that i didn't even make new year resolution. So… I just updated it!! Is it still considered to be "New year" resolution? Maybe not. But I'll try my best to keep it till the end of this year. Do you still manage your new year resolution?? (From a person who hasn't even started yet…)

By the way, yesterday was the important day to all of you I guess (?), Valentine's day. Generally, it is the day full of love. In Japan, women to prepare chocolates to men (Traditionally) and in western culture men to prepare flowers to women (I think). Before COVID, I saw many women hold a rose on the way back home if I remember correctly…

How do you find the left chart? Data above is from Nyle Inc. (2023) which reports about general perception about Valentine's day. 49% of female claims that they will prepare gifts. That is quite reasonable figure considering of Japanese culture. On the other hand, there are 31% of male who will prepare gifts for somebody. Well, I might have to change my mind that Valentine's day in Japan is not for females to approach to males anymore!! Well tricky part is that that includes gifts to yourself… I'm wondering how many of "Buy for themselves in Valentine's day" are included in this survey…

Top preferred gift is chocolates by 89% (Great win for chocolate industry). I'm wondering if there are males who buy chocolate for themselves. There should be some… I would avoid buying a chocolate for myself at the day if I'm in Japan. By the way, our Singapore office celebrated the day with males prepared both flower and chocolates to female employees. Hope people enjoyed it and the year would be full of love!
