#22 ハロウィン？ハロウィーン？(Japanese Halloween)

シンガポールではスーパーにハロウィンの道具？お菓子？が飾られ始めました。都市部に住んでいるせいか子どもたちがお菓子を求めて歩き回っているのを見たことはないですが、道具や衣装は子供向けが売られています。

個人的には日本語ではハロウィーンなのか、ハロウィンなのかという問題があります（かなり個人的）。僕が日本にいた10年前にはこのイベントがまだそんなに一般的ではなかったような気がしています。子供がいないため理解していなかっただけという可能性もなくもないですが。有名になった今日本ではどのように呼ばれているのか。

ハロウィーンのほうが英語っぽくてちょっと響きがかっちょいい（気がしなくもない）、でもハロウィンだと、ちょっとシュッと、キリッとした魔法使いが出てきそうでそれも捨てがたい。

楽天インサイトが2020年に行った「日本のイベントがどのくらい一般的だと思うか」という調査の中からハロウィンと、そして平均値の近かったお中元のデータを抜き出したものが上のグラフになります。ハロウィンの足を引っ張っている（？）のは40代以上の男性（私）の様子。一方お中元に関しては40代以下の男性（私）が値を引き下げているように見える。40代男性は両方引き下げている。。。40代男性（私）って一体。なんか若く見られすぎたくもないけど、年配に見られすぎたくもない、微妙な男心がみえるような、みえないような。

全体的に男性よりも女性の方がイベントに対する意識が高いようにも見える。ここは、男性はイベントごとに疎いということなのか、それともイベントに浮かれている人と思われたくないというまたまた微妙な男心なのか（そんなわけない）。男心も妄想するとなかなかおもしろいものではある。

I saw Singapore supermarkets started to show halloween display. I have never seen Singapore kids working around to get candies. Maybe because I live in CBD area. But displayed costumes and snack seem to be for kids. So I think the event is still for kids in Singapore.

Personally I'm interested in How halloween is pronounced in Japan. I see 2 descriptions in Japanese. "ハロウィーン(hallo-ween)" and "ハロウィン(like hallo-win)". When I was in Japan 10 years ago, this even was not as general as now. Also maybe because I don't have kids. I was not familiar with the event and I don't now how is it generally called. 

"Hallo-ween" sounds to me a bit non-Japanese, fashionable and foreign tastes (maybe). "Hallo-win" has more ... cool and sharp feeling (It is my personal opinion) which I expect smart witches would show up.

Rakuten insight(2020) asked a question "Do you think those listed events are recognized as general event in Japan?". Above chart is the results for "Halloween" and "Summer gift" (*1) . 

Male above 40s (me) pulls down the awareness of Halloween. On the other hand, Male under 40s (me) lowers down the figures for Summer gift. 40s male is involved in both... What happened to 40s Male (me). I assume We (40s Male) are embarrassed to be seen too young but do not want to be seen older too. Such a trouble some generation (me). Well this is totally my personal opinion...

Also basically it looks like female recognize events more "general" than male. Is it that males are less conscious about events in general? Or again it is from males complicated feeling that they don't want to be seen as people for are excited about those fancy events (Very macho and traditional Japanese thoughts) even if they are (Of course, my imagination went too wild). Umm male is so sensitive (smile).
