#40 ちょっと意地悪な調査 (Mean question)

何かにハマっていると、気がついたら夜になっているということってありますよね（ありましたよね？）。昔は（年寄りはこういう書き出しが多い）、本を読むのが好きで、読み出すと途中でやめられなくなり夜ふかしするということも多かったような気がする。今は気づいたら朝になっていて、本が横に落ちている。。。何が変わってしまったのか？（真の理由には気がついていない振りをしている）

なんか最近本を読む量が少なくなったような気がするって思っていたら、ちょっと意地悪な（？）調査結果を見つけてしまった。いや、もちろん意地悪するために行った調査ではないと思います（もちろん）。

やる気スイッチグループ(2021)によると、勉強しなさいとガミガミいう両親は自分が読書をしていないという、なんとも言えない結果を発表しています。なんでこんな調査をしてまで、「ガミガミ言う前に自分で勉強しろ」（かなりの意訳）と言いたかったのだろうか。いや、もちろんレポートの趣旨はそんなことではないのです、本当にすみません。

確かに上の図だけをみるとそんな気がしなくもない。少しずつ「読書をしない」人の割合が減っているあたりが、それっぽい。なんでこんな数字になっているのか、妄想タイム。

自分が勉強しなくて公開しているので、子供に教育熱心。なんか、、、身も蓋もない。自分で本を読むのが好きなだけで、人が本を読むかは別に気にしない人が多い。なんかオタク気質でわかる気がする。そもそも本は読んでないけど勉強はしている、、、計算は得意とか。

いやいや、子供ができて、勉強しなさいって思ったときにこの調査を思い出して恥ずかしくなってしまいそうです。

I guess most of you experienced that the time passes very fast when you focus on something. When I was young (well typically older people, me, start a sentence with this phrase), I loved reading books and once I started reading I forgot to sleep till I finished reading it. Maybe my memory twisted the reality though. But now I often find myself waking up in the morning with the book dropped off from the bed. What's wrong with me? (Aging, of course). 

When I was thinking "I read books less than before recently", I found one mean(?) survey report. To avoid misunderstanding, of course the report is not published for the mean purpose.

Yarukiswitch (2021) shows that parents who always tell their kids to study more are the ones who do not study themselves. Maybe I interpreted it too extreme (Yes, too extreme). I don't understand why they conduct the research to say that "you better study yourself before telling it to do to others"... Again, of course purpose of the research of course is not that (Sorry).

Interestingly, the chart above seems to show that there is a correlation. % of "No reading at all" decreases when they tell their kids to study lesser. It would be interesting to imagine what can be the reasons of it.

Simply, they regret that they didn't study. So they are keen for education? Can be but nothing fun... Maybe those who read book just enjoy themselves and are not interested in others. Yes I can somehow follow this considering of "Otaku" characteristics of Japanese people. Well, maybe they don't read books but study a lot (good at math? for example). Hahaha.

When I have a kid in the future and have a chance to tell him/her to study, I will definitely remember this and might be embarrassed of not reading books anymore...
