#138 読書ジャパン (How many books do you read?)

今朝シンガポールのニュースを読んでいたら、「雨が続いて最低気温が２３度以下になるかもしれないから気をつけて！」っていうニュースが出てました。みんなそんな寒い日には慣れていないから。。。２３度。寒い日？今日本では僕は暑い東京に苦しんでますが、週末シンガポールに帰ったら寒いってなるのかしら。。。

そういえば、これは結構海外在住日本人あるあるだと思うのですが、日本に来たら本屋さんに行ってしまうのではないでしょうか？行かない？シンガポールには実は紀伊國屋書店があって、日本語の本が若干並んでいる本屋さんがあるのですが、もちろん本の数は少ないしテンションが上がらない。日本の本屋さんは上がる。なぜか行っただけで、読んだかのような満足考えられる（謎）。個人的には日本の書籍は世界一キレイだと思う。絵が綺麗、写真が綺麗、文字が少ない。。。

そんななか。そそる調査が発表されてました。株式会社アクセスセキュリティの図書館の利用実態調査のなかから、読書習慣部分を抜粋しましたのが上のグラフになります。どれくらい読書するのか。一ヶ月に1冊未満が半数以上の53%、半分以上。。。結構読まないのか。でも5冊以上の人が20%いる。5冊以上だと1週間に1冊以上。これ漫画とかも入っているのだろうか？入っていたらあっさり5冊以上突破ですね（私）。。。そして右のチャートによると紙の本が7割以上。電子書籍意外と少ない。

実は僕。。。紙の本に少しだけ戻ってます。目が弱ってきて、紙の本のほうがなぜか見やすくなって来ているのです（残念）。老眼おそるべし。近眼との合せ技で、たくさん読むとどんどん疲れるようになってきました。え、老眼のみなさんは共感できるんだろうか？ひょっとしたら今後は書籍はオーディオブックに頼っていくことになるかもしれない。困ったなぁ。

I saw a warning by Singapore news paper that "Weather in Singapore may drop to 23 degree cold due to continuous heavy rain". People in Singapore are not used to cold weather definitely. COLD? I'm now suffering from hot weather in Tokyo. Do you think I'll feel cold after coming back to Singapore Lol

By the way, I guess most of Japanese living overseas tend to go to book stores when they come to Japan. No? In Singapore, there is one Japanese book store Kinokuniya which sells even Japanese books there but Japanese books are very few of course. It doesn't excites me that much. Book stores in Japan is different. They are so exciting! It makes me get satisfied as if I have read those books (?). Personally Japanese books are the most attractive books in the world. Beautiful layout, beautiful pictures, good paper quality, less text…

Then let me introduce on report about reading habit of Japanese people. According to Access Security (2022), Japanese who don't read books (less than 1 per month) is 53.3%. Half of population… Ok, it is less than I expected. But around 20% read more than 5, means 1 per week. It is good enough. Well if comics are included I read much more than that… Also the left chart shows that 73% of them are read by paper books. The portion of e-books are less than I expected…

I used to read mostly by e-books, Kindle for example. But… honestly… I somehow prefer paper books because of my weaker I sight, aging effect. Now I more comfortable to read paper books to read long time. Combined with short sightness, it is too tiring to read e-books (Sad). I'm not sure if you have the same feeling. I'm assuming that I will rely on audibles in near future just because I can not read small text anymore. (Sad).
