#149「最近の若者は」の魔力 (Youngers are similar to elders when they are young)

社長になって９年目。未だに思います。社長向いてない（笑）。そういえば全グループ社長とも良くこんな話をしてなぁ（遠い目）。早く社長変わってもらってエンジニアやりたいですよね、みたいな。そしてリタイアしたかの前社長は今どうもそれを満喫しているらしい（うらやま）

そういえば、今日Twitterで「出世望まず」っていう単語がトレンド入りしていて思わず覗いてしまいました。どうもテレビ番組で「出世を望まない若者が8割」という調査が特集されたことが取り上げられていたようです。文脈は「最近の若者」は「昔と違って」出世に無関心！とのことです。うーん。本当か？

番組で取り上げられていたのは上の左側の東晶貿易株式会社(2022)の調査になります。調査内容的には今の20代はこう考えている、というだけで昔の話は何もしていない。。。でもテレビ番組では50代の方とかにインタビューして「最近の若者は」という感じだったようです。なるほど。僕は今の若者ではないですが、僕が20代だった20年前は少なくともそんなに「出世したい！」っていう感じでもなかったような。

調べてみた（笑）博報堂生活総研の生活定点調査で似たようなデータが有ったので、20代だけ抽出したのが右のグラフ。どうだこれは。。。昔も今もそんなに違わないような。1998年時点の20代が23%で2020年が22%。まあ記事を読む限り別に否定的に言っていたわけではなさそうなので、別よよいのですが、もうちょっと調べてみたら楽しいのに。と思った夜でした。

Its been 9th year after becoming a president. I'm still thinking that I'm not a suitable person for MD Lol. This question always reminds me of the ex group president who always talked to me that lets quit this role soon and go back to engineering together (Good memories). Now he retired and enjoying what he wanted to do without me (Jealous).

By the way, I saw the phrase "Don't want to get promotion" in twitter trending and went to read the article. It seems people reacted to a TV news featuring that 80% of youngers do not want promotion in Japan. Of course that is in the context that youngers are different from youngers before. Umm… Really?

The survey based on the TV news was Tosho Trading (2022) on the left side. That survey was fair in a way that it didn't have any comment comparing with past youngers. However the news interviewed people by themselves and conclude that recent youngers are different. I'm at my mid 40s and at least I don't have perception that my friends in our 20th strongly chased after promotion (Maybe).

Yes, lets look for evidence Lol. I found similar data "Hakuhodo (2022)" which shows chronological data from 1998. So I made a graph (right one) with picking up data of 20s. How do you think…? Well I don't see any "BIG" gap between 20s in 1998 and 2022. 23% in 1998 and 22% in 2022. Ummm. Well actually I don't care that much since the new didn't mention about recent 20s negatively.  But I was just wondering it would be more fun if you search for more evidence. OK, its a good day to discuss about our long history question "Why youngers are like that recently?" from elders, hahahahaha.
