#59 クリスマスはひとりで過ごす日（Christmas is a day to spend alone).

Merry Christmas. そして少し早めに仕事納めをしたということもあり、久しぶりに1人で飲みにでました。シンガポールは外出に人数制限がある状態が1年半以上続いているので、バーなどで知らない人と話すというムードでもなかったような気がして、友達と出かける以外で飲みに出ることはありませんでした。ま、もともと1人で飲みに行くことがよくあったわけでもない。

バー的なところで、知らない人が集まっていそうな雰囲気があるのかと、少しコロナ前はバーが集まるとおりだった場所を歩いて、覗いてみましたがやはり友達同士で集まっているという感じ（勘）で、カウンターが空いていたり、知らない人で話してそうな雰囲気でもなさそうな気がする。ということで、外に話し相手を探しに行くというよりは、1人で軽くお祝い（？）をしに、せっかくならちょっといいものをとクラフトビールのお店に入りました。日本と同じくシンガポールもクラフトビールは大流行で国内にも多くのマイクロブルワリーがあるとのこと。1人でいるのは僕だけだったなぁ。独り身の人はどうしてるんだろうぁ。

株式会社IBJの2021年の調査による、独身時代にクリスマスをどのように過ごしていたかという調査の結果が上のグラフです。余計なお世話感がすごいですが、意外と男女で違うんだなと思ったりはしました。男性は約50%がひとりで過ごしていたと回答する一方、女性は20%のみがひとりですごしていたと回答したようです。

その分がどこにいっているかというと、女性陣は家族が男性よりも約20%高く、友達と過ごすも約14%男性よりも高いようです。ひとりでという回答と仕事という回答を足すと独身男性は約70%に到達するので、クリスマスはほぼひとりで過ごす日という定義でよいでしょう（暴論）。そういう意味では女性陣の回答のほうが海外っぽい気もします。クリスマスは家族や友人と過ごすという日である国も多いと聞いています。シンガポールはクリスマスは祝日でもあるので余計その傾向があるきがします。

とはいっても、今私はシンガポール。クリスマスではありますが、本日の昼間の気温は30度近く、オーストラリアにいたときはクリスマスは真夏のため、サンタは水着でサーフィンもしてました。日本のクリスマスとは随分様子は違うだろうな（うろ覚え）。

Merry Christmas everybody. To celebrate Christmas for a short while, I went to grab some beer alone at late night. Well I haven't been alone for drinking for long time. Singapore has be under strong social distancing regulation in this pandemic and I assumed that it is a bit difficult to go to bars to mingle with other customers (Maybe just a misunderstanding). Maybe just because I was I bit too busy these days to go out for drinking.

I was wondering if bars are still the place to let people know each other, I went to the street where used to be known as bar street to have a look. As I expected, most of people seemed to form a group only with their friends (I guess), I seldom see people drinking alone or talking around courter area. In the  end, I gave up to find that place and decided to get a premium craft beer to reward myself.  I heard from the restaurant staff that micro breweries are as huge trend as in Japan. I was the only wan being alone at the restaurant and wondering how single people spend time now?

IBJ,Inc. (2021) shows how single people spend Christmas time in Japan (Chart above). Don't say who cares, I was just interested in… It shows interested gap between male and female in general. While 50% of men spend alone, only around 20% of women answers they were alone. 

Instead, % spending with family for female is around 20% higher than male and spending with friends for female is 14% higher than male. Having look at the data, % of males including "alone" and "work" reaches to more than 70%. So I think I can define Christmas as a day to spend alone in Japan (Too wild), while females consider the day to be the day to spend with somebody. Thing should be different in Singapore since its public holiday and less people work at the day…

By the way, I'm in Singapore now and the perception about Christmas seasonality should be slightly different from that of Japan in winter. When I was in Australia, Christmas is in summer. So Santa Claus wears swimming wear and is on the surfing board. Spending Christmas in Japan is 10 years ago and I can not remember how Christmas in Japan looked like though…
