#139 観光客はどれくらい減ったのか (Tourists decreased a lot under COVID)

週末に沖縄にいってきました。変わらず暖かく迎えていただいたコザのみなさまありがとうございます（深々とお辞儀）。前回行ったのが３月。緊急事態宣言明け直後で、那覇空港もガラガラ、コザの街もお店はあまり開いていなくて、人も少ないという状態。阿嘉島にいったのですが、超絶きれいなニシハマビーチで２時間一人で話し相手もいませんでした。。。（寂しかった）

今回は観光客もそれなりに増えてお店も開いていて、何よりも人が外にいっぱいいて、いろいろと難しい時期ではありますが、個人的には活気があって良かったなと思いました。やっぱり沖縄は賑やかじゃないと。食べ物も美味しかったし。極端な円安なので海外にいる僕の友人はみんな手ぐすねを引いて（？）日本が開国（？？）するのを待っているので、早くコロナが収まって行き来ができるようになりますように（お願い）

今日はちょっとせっかく沖縄行ったので、どのくらい復活しているのか調べてみました。というかそもそもどこまで落ちてたんでしょ。。。沖縄県が毎月発表している入域観光者数を年別にグラフにしたのが上記になります。一番下っていたのは2020年4月、５月。そりゃそうか。シンガポールはほぼロックダウンしてました。2022年はやはり過去2年に比べるとだいぶ多いですね。3月以降でいうと、ざっくり2019年の半分くらい。それでも半分か。国際通りガラガラだったしな。。。

こう見ると、2019年までは人手不足だと言われていた沖縄の観光業、いまみなさんどうしてるんだろう、、、と思ったのですが。実は沖縄の失業者数は2017年、2018年とそんなに変わっていない様子。やっぱりこういう実態は日本に住んでないと実態がわからないですよね。別の調査によると沖縄では子供に観光業につかないでほしいと思っている両親が増えている様子。観光客として沖縄を満喫してきた僕としてはそれも寂しいけど、その両親の気持も分かるなぁ。こんなこと頻繁には起きないでほしいけど長い人生もう一回くらいはありそうな気もするしな。。。どうだろう？

I went to Okinawa this weekend. Thank you very much for friends in Koza City welcoming me that much (Deep bow). The last time I went there was in March which was right after emergency statement. Naha airport was empty, restaurants in Koza city were half closed and I didn't see many people walking in town area. I also went to Aka island at that time, I was at the famous beautiful Nishihama beach alone for 2 hours. Nobody to talk to (Lonely).

This time, I see many tourists in downtown, more restaurants are open than on March. It is a bit controversial due to COVID case increase in Okinawa, but I personally got relieved to see that tourism industry in Okinawa is slightly better than before since it is one of the biggest resource in Okinawa. Actually quite a few of my friends in Asia are so looking forward to Japan to open the boarder since JPY is so cheap now… I really hope that COVID case will be decreased soon and Japan accept tourists from overseas soon!

Today since I just came back from Okinawa, let me introduce data about tourist industry in Okinawa. The chart above shows number of people who visit Okinawa by year. I'm wondering how much it is decreased after COVID. The lowest months was Apr/May 2020. Ok, that is the matter of course. Singapore was under circuit breaker (almost lockdown) at the time. 2022 is better than last 2 years. After March in 2022, it reaches to almost half of 2019. Well, it is still half. I can tell since I saw the main street was kind of empty…

Tourism industry in Okinawa was know for running out of resource in 2019. Now what do those people do? But actually the unemployment stats in Okinawa was as same as 2017/2018 in 2022. Ummm. I can not really feel what is happening there. Other survey shows that parents in Okinawa do not want their children to be involved in tourism industry… I feel sad from that since I used to enjoy Okinawa a lot to spend my vacation. But I also understand there feeling. I really don't want this thing to happen again but in my long life, I guess we will face to crisis like this again (hopefully not). How do you think?
