那珂市の夏の風物詩である、那珂総合公園の広大なひまわり畑。その中に何者かの気配を感じたなら、怪獣サンフラーがそこにいるのだ。
今を去ること数十年前、外宇宙から飛来した一機の傷ついた宇宙船が、ひまわり畑に不時着した。那珂市の人々は宇宙船の乗員である外星人たちに、宇宙船の修理のための部品や工具を貸し与えたり、彼らのエネルギー源であり、宇宙船の燃料となるひまわりオイルを提供したりと暖かくもてなした。やがて彼らは故郷の星に帰る時が来たが、友好の証として街の守り神となる怪獣サンフラーを残していった。それ以来毎年夏になるとサンフラーの分身であるひまわり達が総合公園のひまわり畑に混じって咲き、街と人々を見守るようになった。ひまわりが太陽の方を向くのは、地球から見て太陽と同じ軌道で公転する故郷の星を見つめているのだという。

The vast sunflower fields of Naka Comprehensive Park are a summer tradition in Naka City. If you feel someone's presence in it, the monster Sunflar is there.
Decades ago, a damaged spaceship from outer space crash-landed in a field of sunflowers. The people of Naka City lend parts and tools for repairing the spacecraft to the aliens who are the crew of the spacecraft, and provide them with sunflower oil, which is their energy source and fuel for the spacecraft. I was treated warmly. Eventually, the time came for them to return to their home planet, but as a token of their friendship, they left behind the monster Sunflar, who became the city's guardian deity. Since then, every summer, sunflowers, the alter ego of Sunflar, have bloomed among the sunflower fields of the multi-purpose park, watching over the city and its people. When sunflowers face the sun, they are staring at their home planet, which revolves in the same orbit as the sun as seen from Earth.
