Out of the Box Ideas for Women for Job Interviews

Job interviews are not merely about showcasing your experience and skills. They are equally about making an impression as a person and showing your personality.

Skills and experience are to prove that we can do the tasks for the job we are applying for. In contrast, personal traits tell an employer if we can be a good asset in the longer term.

What we need to indirectly communicate to an interviewer is whether we will be serious, professional, objective, and energetic in carrying out our responsibilities.

Many of us have experienced the highs and lows of the interview process, but have you ever considered what you can do to increase your chances of having an interview? Well, after reviewing numerous studies and research, we have compiled a list of eight professional yet unconventional ideas that can help you succeed in your next interview.

Embrace Your Glasses

It's a well-known stereotype that people who wear glasses look more professional and intelligent. In fact, a study found that one out of three adults believe that glasses make someone look more professional, while 43% believe that glasses make a person appear more intelligent.

Psychology Professor Cary Cooper from Lancaster University suggests that wearing glasses can boost one's self-confidence and potentially improve their performance during an interview. Additionally, people who wear glasses are often viewed as more competent, industrious, and honest. So, if you wear glasses, why not use them to your advantage in your next interview?

Style Your Hair in a Bun

Research has shown that a neat and comfortable appearance is essential to making a good first impression in an interview.

Hair says more about a person than many times we can imagine. Remember hearing "Head to Toe"? Well, you can manipulate your facial impressions during an interview but your hair may speak aloud about your personality, and you can't do anything about it after you are face-to-face with the interviewer. So, do it beforehand.

Styling your hair in a bun, ponytail, top knot, or French twist can create a polished look that will impress your potential employer.

Wear a Watch

Wearing a watch can demonstrate your attention to detail and punctuality. However, it is crucial to keep it simple and avoid wearing flashy or overly expensive watches, as they can appear arrogant and boastful. Wearing a simple formal watch will suffice for the purpose. However, please note that wearing a sports watch may be counterproductive.

Especially if you are interviewing in Japan for a job, a watch can make a huge difference.

Accessorize with Simple Jewelry

When it comes to jewelry, it is best to keep it simple and elegant. Dangly earrings and bracelets, including ankle bracelets, should be avoided, while smaller hoops or stud earrings can accentuate your professionalism. Diamond rings or pearl necklaces can add a touch of sophistication to your outfit.

Go Light on the Fragrance

While it may seem like a good idea to smell good during an interview, overpowering fragrances can be distracting and off-putting. Scents can also be linked to emotional memories, so it's best to avoid leaving a strong, unpleasant impression.

Wear a Belt

Wearing a belt can showcase your fashion sense and accentuate your figure.

However, it's essential to avoid going overboard with expensive designer brands. Instead, choose a belt that matches the color and quality of the leather on your shoes. And it should look clean and professional. Putting on an old, damaged belt will only end up showing a careless attitude.

Skip the Hat

Hats can make a statement, but they are generally not appropriate for a job interview. Opt for a simple and professional look instead.

Remember, your interview is an opportunity to showcase your skills, experience, and professionalism. So, choose your attire and accessories carefully to create a positive and lasting impression on your potential employer.
