Introduction

     Aristotle found man's nature in his activity for the good as a member of the political society, and he wrote that "man is by his nature a political animal" (ὁ ἄνθρωπος φύσει πολιτικὸν ζῷον). But animals communicate in a different way than humans, for example, boss monkeys and queen bees exercise special political power over others in the same kind of group. It is possible, then, that being a member of a social group is not a uniquely human trait, but rather a phenomenon that can be seen widely in animal societies in general.

     On the other hand, seeing and enjoying works of art is something unique to human, and in this sense, we can say that "human is an artistic animal". Swallows form their own nests, but this is because they are forced to do so by the necessities of life as animals, and no ordinary animal would go to the trouble of processing an object and adding color to it, even though it is not necessary for life, like an artwork.

Can Generative AI Create Original?

     Generative AI writes text and produces images, but this does not mean that it is considered a culture bearer itself. It is positioned as a tool to be used by humans. At least at the present time, it is impossible for a generative AI to output the texture of an oil painting on canvas. The more the generative AI digitally generates images, texts, and sounds, the more meaningful it will become for humans to write, speak, paint, and sculpt in the analog world. This is because the output of a generative AI is a copy created from digital data learned from past materials, and cannot be an original.

Conclusion

     Only human with a soul can create an original. And perhaps the soul is not an intelligence. For the soul is fundamentally beyond the level of intelligence of "learning and understanding" or "calculating and reasoning". It is clear that generative AI does not have a soul. The Turing Test is inadequate in that it does not ask whether artificial intelligence has a soul. If the research on artificial intelligence and artificial life goes as far as it will go, it will shift to the question, "Can we create an artificial soul?"
