The other day, I met a bear,
One day,
I found a book titled
“How do you react when you meet a bear”
At the outdoor library of the Hoshino Hot Spring.
I browsed a few pages of the book.
It said,
Order these options of
what to do when you meet a bear in the mountain
from most to least correct.
a. Play dead
b. Run away
c. Slowly back away
d. Talk to the bear
I figured the right order would be:
c/d/a/b
Black bears inhabit the mountain area of Karuizawa.
People are encouraged to bring a bell around with them
to make noise while they walk in the mountain.
Slowly backing away from a bear when you meet one
is the most common advice I hear.
But the correct answer in the book was,
d. Talk to the bear
It cracks me up.
Talk to the bear,
“Oops..fancy meeting you down here!”
The bear would scratch his head and say,
“I barely know ya….”
