大切なことは選択肢を持つこと/ It’s important we have many choices.

Today, I went to eat oysters for lunch with my friend. She took a vacation and came back to Osaka from Tokyo. We told each other about what we had been up to. She started a new job last December and is doing well. I know she can speak and understand English well. I want to study to be able to speak English like her.

In the afternoon I went to my aunt’s house. Recently, I have been going there and playing with her dog every day. My aunt and uncle had to go out, I took care of the dog. They got home at 8 PM. Then We had sushi for dinner.

After dinner, We talked about our career. I don’t have experience working as a full time employee and never have my career. In contrast to me, my aunt has worked freelance as a graphic designer for many years. When she was 20s, she became independent from the company. She always think flexibly and close to young generation.

She said that one of the most important things is having a lot of choices. There is a big difference in the amount of time needed to achieve anything whether we know of other choices or not. It is necessary that We get knowledge and study to increase the number of choices. So I thought it’s important to read books, talk with many people, travel, and keep learning at all times.

友人が東京から大阪に帰ってきたので、牡蠣ランチを食べに行きました。お互いの近況を話していたのですが、12月から転職して新しい仕事を始めた彼女はとても充実している様子で私も嬉しかったです。会うまですっかり忘れていたのですが、友人は英語もよく話せるので、私も見習って勉強していきたいと思います。

午後からは叔母の家に遊びに行きました。最近はほぼ毎日叔母の家で犬と戯れており、今日は叔母＆叔父が外出する用事があったので、代わりに私がワンコの面倒を見ていました。8時に2人が帰ってきて、晩御飯はくら寿司を食べました🍣

お寿司晩餐会の後、これからの仕事について叔母と話しました。私は今まで正社員として働いた経験がなく、ちゃんとしたキャリアを持っていません。私とは対照的に、叔母はフリーランスでグラフィックデザインを仕事にしています。20代から独立して働いてきた叔母は頭が柔らかく、断定した物言いをしません。下の世代にも寄り添った考え方をする人です。

そんな叔母は「人生で大切なことは多くの選択肢を持つことだ」と言います。何か一つのことをするにも、他の選択肢を知るのと知らないのとでは必要な時間に大きな差が出ます。選択肢を増やすために必要であるのが、知識であり、勉強であるということです。だから、本を読んだり、多くの人と話したり、旅に出たり、何時も学び続ける姿勢は大切だなと思いました。
