日本では昔から、クマをみたら死んだふりをしなさい。ってよく言われますよね。でも実は俗説で意味がないそうです。むしろ、クマの方が死んだふりをするんだとか…。

イソップ童話の「熊と旅人」でも、死んだふりをした方の人間がクマに

と囁かれる。という謎展開が繰り広げられ、ここでの”死んだふり”は、子供も読む本だからか”lay still”が使用されていますが、大人の私たちには”feign”という言葉がおすすめかもしれません。

”feign”という単語は　(…を)装う、(…の)ふりをする、ふりをするという意味で、”pretend”や”mock”などと同じです。

Using "feign" just usually makes the sentence shorter/simpler depending on the situation.
