朝顔市　手ぬぐい

7月の季節の手ぬぐいは、入谷の朝顔市がテーマ。入谷の朝顔市は昭和20年８月15日の終戦の日から、焼野原となったこの街の復興を願って毎年7月に行われています。今年は残念ながら中止となりましたが、こうして朝顔市の雰囲気だけでもお客様に楽しんでいただきたいと思っています。
 
朝顔は、夏の朝に円錐形の花を開きます。日本への到来は、遣唐使が薬として種子を持ち帰ったのが初めとされています。早朝に咲いて昼にはしぼんでしまう、はかない花でもあります。

The Morning Glory Festival at Iriya started from August 15th in 1945, at the end of the war. We pray for peace and revival for our hometown. I'm really sorry but it’s canceled this year because of COVID-19. Therefore we welcome you with this Japanese traditional hand towel to feel the festival.
 
Morning glory is flowering in the early morning, shrinking at noon. It’s really fleeting but beautiful, I think.
