Delightful Seminar Friends:September 16th(Saturday)

While surfing the internet, I happened to come across Michael Jackson's music video for "Thriller" after a long time. The dance where Michael joins the zombies and dances together was so shocking that it became a social phenomenon for quite some time from the end of 1982. Watching the music video for "Thriller," which is now almost 40 years ago, reminded me of my university classmates from the same seminar.

I engaged in seminar activities from April 1983 to March 1985 at the Kuniharu Date Seminar in the School of Political Science and Economics at Waseda University. The admission process to the seminar included a document review and an interview conducted by Professor Date and the fourth-year seminar leader. It was known within the university as a highly competitive seminar with a significant acceptance rate. Professor Date's specialization was in theoretical economics, and he had achieved notable accomplishments in the field of economic fluctuation theory and the study of Joseph Alois Schumpeter.

The 33rd batch of seminar students (21 in total) went on to work in financial institutions such as banks, securities firms, and insurance companies, as well as major trading companies, leading manufacturers, think tanks, and even as national tax specialists (actress). It was truly a group of students with diverse personalities.

Nowadays, they have risen through the ranks to become executives, including the Vice President of a life insurance company, executives at non-life insurance and major corporations, and even a leading actress. The primary seminar activity, without a doubt, was the "drinking parties" that took place almost every week after seminar classes. Seminar retreats and alumni meetings were also actively held, and a strong vertical connection between seniors and juniors was firmly established. As a result, students themselves planned, implemented, and evaluated seminar activities, ensuring that the seminar continued to be a valuable organization.
