概説
日本は火山や地震、台風に悩まされながらも、あらゆる種類の農業や林業に適した気候に恵まれた土地であると言えます。また、海流がぶつかる位置にあり、豊富な海洋資源に恵まれた国でもあります。
日本はわずか数十年で、産業社会以前の農業社会から世界有数の経済大国に移行しましたが、一方で水や大気、土地を汚染し、多くの人々に苦難をもたらしました。また過去には、近隣諸国を植民地化し、戦争や環境破壊を引き起こし、そして歴史上初めて、核による荒廃を経験した国でもあります。
本書は日本の環境史を批判的に考察するハンドブックです。第1 部「環境史のトポロジー」、第2 部「汚染事故/災害」、第3 部「自然と人間の間」、第4 部「海、湖、沿岸」、第5 部「森林」の全5 部より構成されています。
