2022年3月8日のイギリス議会でのゼレンスキー大統領の演説を訳してみた

　2022年3月8日、イギリスのボリス・ジョンソン首相や下院議員らを前に、ウクライナのウォロディミル・ゼレンスキー大統領がリモートで演説を行いました。

　シェイクスピアやチャーチルの言葉を盛り込み、イギリス人の心を大いに掴む内容とのことで、気になって日本語に訳してみました。ウクライナ語→英語→素人和訳です。英文は下記ガーディアンのサイトから。［］は縁側のヒラメによる補足です。

"Mr Speaker, all the members of parliament, ladies and gentlemen, I am addressing all the people of the United Kingdom and all the people from the country with a big history.

議長、議員の皆さん。私はイギリスの人々へ、大きな歴史ある国の皆さんへ訴えます。

“I am addressing you as a citizen, as a president, of also a big country, with a dream and big effort.

私は一市民として、また［皆さんと同様に］大きな国の、理想と大きな苦難を抱えた国の大統領として、皆さんへ訴えます。

“I would like to tell you about the 13 days of war, the war that we didn’t start and we didn’t want. However we have to conduct this war, we do not want to lose what we have, what is ours, our country Ukraine.

この戦争の13日間の日々についてお話ししたいと思います［2.24開戦。3.14時点で戦争はまだ続いています］。私達が始めたのではなく、私達が望んだわけでもない戦争です。しかしながら、私達はこの戦争を遂行しなければなりません。私達の持つものを、私達のものである国を、ウクライナを失いたくないからです。

“Just the same way you once didn’t want to lose your country when the Nazis started to fight your country and you had to fight for Britain.

かつてナチスが貴国と戦争を始めたとき、国を失いたくなかった貴国と全く同様です。貴国は自らの国のために戦わなくてはなりませんでした。

“Thirteen days of this struggle. On day one, at four o’clock in the morning we were attacked by cruise missiles. Everybody woke up, people with children, the entire Ukraine, and since then we have not been sleeping.

13日にわたる苦悩。1日目、その日の朝4時、私達は巡航ミサイルで攻撃を受けました。誰もが目を覚ましました。人々も、子供達も、全てのウクライナ人が。そしてそれ以降、私達は眠っていません。

“We have all been fighting for our country, with our army.

私達は皆、軍隊とともに、私達の国のために戦っているのです。

“On day two, we have been fighting airstrikes and our heroic military servicemen on the islands have been trying to fight. When Russian forces demanded that we lay down arms … we did continue fighting, and we did feel the force of our people that opposed the occupants until the end.

2日目から、空襲と戦っています。［ズミイヌイ島など黒海の］島々の勇敢な兵士達が戦おうとしました。ロシア軍が我々に武器を捨てるよう要求しましたが……私達は戦いを続けました。そして終わりの時まで占領者に肯んじないという、国民の意志の力を感じたのです。

“The next day, the artillery started fighting us. Our army showed us who we are.”

翌日には、［敵の］砲兵が攻撃を始めました。［反撃によって］私達が何者であるか、我が軍は示してくれました。

“On day four, we started taking people captive. We have not been torturing them – we remain humane even on day four of this terrible war.

4日目から、私達は捕虜を得はじめました。拷問はしていません。この恐ろしい戦争の4日目においても、私達は人道的なままでいます。

“On day five, the terror against us took place against children, against cities, and constant shelling has been taking place around the country, including hospitals, and that didn’t break us, and that gave us feeling of big truth.

5日目、子供達や街に対するテロが行われました。砲撃が国中で続いています。病院にもです。それでも攻撃は私達は打ち破ることなく、大きな真実というものの感触を私達に与えました。

“On day six, the Russian rockets fell on Babi Yar – that is the place where the Nazis killed thousands of people during the second world war – and 80 years after the Russians hit at them for the second time, and even churches are getting destroyed by shelling.

6日目、バビ・ヤールにロシアのロケットが落ちました。第二次世界大戦中にナチスが数千人を殺害した場所です。──そして80年後、2度目はロシアによって、教会さえも砲撃で破壊されてしまいました。

“On day eight, we saw Russian tanks hitting the atomic power station and everybody then understood that this is the terror against everyone.

8日目、ロシアの戦車が原子力発電所を攻撃するのを目撃しました。これは万人に対するテロだと誰もが理解しました。

“On day nine, there was a meeting of Nato congress without the result we were looking for. Yes, we did feel that, unfortunately, the alliances don’t always work properly, and the no-fly zone cannot be enforced.

9日目、NATO議会会議が行われましたが、私達の望む結果は得られませんでした。そう、不幸なことに、同盟は正しく機能せず、飛行禁止区域（NFZ）は実施されませんでした。

“On day 10, the Ukrainians started protesting and stopping the armoured vehicles with their own hands.

10日目、ウクライナ国民は抵抗を始め、自らの手で、装甲車を止めだしました。

“On day 11, the children and cities were being hit and hospitals as well with the rockets and constant shelling, and on that day we realised that Ukrainians became heroes, entire cities, children, adults.

11日目、ロケットや砲撃で、子供達や街、病院までも攻撃されています。この日、ウクライナ人は英雄になったと悟りました。あらゆる街で、子供も大人も。

“On day 12, the losses of the Russian army exceeded 10,000 people killed, and also including the general, and that gave us hope that there will be some kind of responsibility for those people in front of the court.

12日目、ロシア軍の死者は1万人を超えました。ここには将官も含まれています。彼らは法廷で何らかの責任を問われるであろう人々です。これは私達に希望を与えました。

“On day 13, in the city of Mariupol that was attacked by the Russian force, a child was killed. They do not allow any food, any water and people started panicking.

13日目、マリウポリ市がロシア軍に攻撃され、子供が殺されました。ロシア軍によって食料も水も手に入らなくなり、人々はパニックに陥っています。

“I think everybody can hear that people do not have water over 13 days of this situation, over 50 children have been killed. These are the children that could have lived but these people have taken them away from us.

こういった状況の13日間、水が手に入らないこと、50人以上の子供が殺されていること、皆さんは聞き及んでいると思います。生きられたはずの子供達を、彼らは私達から奪ったのです。

“Ukraine were not looking to have this war. The Ukraine have not been looking to become big but they have become big over the days of this war. We are the country that are saving people despite having to fight one of the biggest armies in the world. We have to fight the helicopters, rockets.

ウクライナはこの戦争を求めてはいませんでした。ウクライナ人は大きく［おそらく、ロシアにとっての脅威と］なろうとはしていませんでした。しかし、この戦争での幾日かを経て、大きくなっています。我々の国は国民を守っています。世界で最大の軍の一つと戦っているのにもかかわらず、です。ヘリコプターやロケットと戦わねばなりません。

“The question for us now is to be or not to be. Oh no, this Shakespearean question. For 13 days this question could have been asked but now I can give you a definitive answer. It’s definitely yes, to be.

今、私達にとっての問題は、このままでいいのか、いけないのか［小田島雄志訳。諸説あり］ということです。そう、シェイクスピアのあの問いです。13日間、この問いが投げかけられてきました。今、私は決定的な答えを出せます。イエスです。このまま［戦いを］続けます。

“And I would like to remind you the words that the United Kingdom have already heard, which are important again. We will not give up and we will not lose.

イギリス［の人々］が聞いたことのある［チャーチルの］言葉を、思い出していただきたいのです。今再び大切なことです。私達は諦めません。私達は負けません。

“We will fight until the end, at sea, in the air. We will continue fighting for our land, whatever the cost.

私達は最後まで戦います。海で、空で。どれだけ犠牲を払おうとも、我々の国土のために戦い続けます。

“We will fight in the forests, in the fields, on the shores, in the streets.

私達は戦います。森で、野で、海岸で、市街で。

“I’d like to add that we will fight on the banks of different rivers and we’re looking for your help, for the help of the civilised countries.

［かつてイギリスが戦った場所とは］異なる川の岸で私達は戦います、と付け加えたいと思います。そして貴国の支援を、文明化された国々の支援を求めています。

“We’re thankful for this help and I’m very grateful to you Boris, please increase the pressure of sanctions against this country (Russia), please recognise this country as a terrorist state and please make sure our Ukrainian skies are safe.

私達は［これまで受けた］支援に感謝しています。ボリス［ジョンソン首相］に深く御礼申し上げます。どうか彼の国（ロシア）への制裁圧力を高めてください。どうかあの国がテロ国家だと認識してください。どうか確実にウクライナの空を安全にしてください。

“Please make sure you do what needs to be done and what is stipulated by the greatness of your country.

どうか成すべきことを確実に成してください。それが貴国の偉大さを明らかにします。

“Glory to Ukraine and glory to the United Kingdom.”
