Am I an outlier in the society?

I always believed that the most important thing about Statistics  is the Outlier in the trend. If there is a trend then trend is the thing you should see. But if there is an outlier in the trend, it will be even more interesting. Because outlier in the trend could be the key to know the true nature or data or problems. 

The reason why I am saying this is, before I was watching a Japanese TV show. There was a lady who is known as very intelligent and smart in the show. She went to Tokyo University and she always craves for knowledge and stuff.  Her professional career is amazing and she is very elite. However, after one thing she said then I started doubt about her whether she is truly intelligent and smart, or not. Of course she is very intelligent and smart but, is she that much intelligent and smart as we expect and she believes herself as intelligent and smart?  She said that statistics is about all trend and she loves it. I feel like she must have been missing out so many things in her life, if she thinks things like that. Does anybody agree with me?
