ヨーロッパ全土で新たな感染拡大が生じていますが、これは20A.EU1という新たな変異種によるものであることが報告されました。６月にスペインではじめて検出され、ヨーロッパ全土に広がりました。香港とニュージーランドへも持ち込まれています。

ウイルスの突起タンパク質の変異（A222V）を含む6か所以上の変異があります。この突起部位の突然変異は突起の形態や安定性に影響を及ぼすことがありえますが、細胞との結合や融合に影響する部位ではありません。

現時点では致死率に対する影響は定かではありません。また、この変異体が感染伝播の優位性のために広まっているのかも不明です(354)。

New outbreaks across Europe have been reported to be caused by a new variant of 20A.EU1, which was first detected in Spain in June and has spread across Europe. It has also been introduced to Hong Kong and New Zealand.

There are more than 6 mutations, including a mutation in the virus' projection protein (A222V). Mutations in this protrusion site may affect the morphology and stability of the protrusion, but do not affect cell binding or fusion.

The effect on lethality is not known at this time. It is also unclear whether the variant is widespread due to its predominance in infection transmission (354).
