シクラメンの原種と言われている品種となる。
とてもコンパクトなもので、草丈も８ｃｍで
花もとても小さい。

シクラメンは、地中海沿岸の山岳地域に生息し
まとまった雨量が降る地域が原産となる。この
為に雨から花粉を守る為に、シクラメンの花は
真下を向いているのである。

日本ではこの植物には、洋名を直訳した名称の
『豚ノ饅頭』（ブタノマンジュウ）という名称
がついていたのだが、牧野富太郎博士がこんな
美しい植物にこの名前は良くないと、その花弁
の揺らいだ火焔の様な花の形から『篝火花』
（カガリビバナ）の名を付けたものなのである。

ラベンダーカラーの花がとても優しくて美しい。
六甲高山植物園は積もりはしないものの、時折
雪がちらほらと舞い落ちる中、園内に人の姿が
ほぼない中で、このシクラメンの原種の撮影を
楽しんだもの。

シクラメンは、その花が美しいのは当たり前と
して、葉も素敵な模様が入り美しい。それにも
増してコイル状にトグロを巻いている花茎にも
美しさを感じる。

このコイル巻こそが、シクラメンの学名の由来
であり、ギリシャ語で『円』や『螺旋』を意味
する言葉となっている。花が終わって種ができ
それを花茎がクルクルと巻き込む姿からこんな
シクラメンという名前が付いたのである。

このコイル状に茎が種を巻くのは、外気の寒さ
や虫などからの攻撃から種を守る為のもの。
そうやって考えると、このコイルは赤子を守る
『おくるみ』みたいなものなのである。

一見すると、不気味に見えたこのコイル巻きが
優しい愛情のカタチとして素敵なものに見えて
くるものである。シクラメンが家にある方なら
葉をめくって見てみると素敵なコイルを見る事
が出来るのである。

This is a variety considered to be the original species of cyclamen. It's very compact, with a height of only 8 cm, and the flowers are also very small.

Cyclamen is native to mountainous regions along the Mediterranean coast, where there is a significant amount of rainfall. To protect the pollen from rain, cyclamen flowers face directly downward.

In Japan, this plant was initially named "Buta no Manju" (Pig's Dumpling) based on a literal translation of its Western name. However, Dr. Mitsutaro Makino felt that such a beautiful plant deserved a better name. Hence, he named it "Kagaribi Hana" (Bonfire Flower) inspired by the swaying flame-like petals.

The lavender-colored flowers are very gentle and beautiful. Although the Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden rarely sees snow accumulation, the photographer enjoyed capturing the original species of cyclamen when there were almost no visitors in the garden.

Cyclamen is not only known for its beautiful flowers but also for its lovely patterned leaves. The coiled flower stems add to its beauty. This coiling is the origin of the scientific name, derived from Greek words meaning "circle" or "spiral," reflecting the way the stem coils around the seeds after the flowers fade.

The coiled stem serves to protect the seeds from external elements such as cold weather and insects, acting like a protective wrap for the seeds. Viewing it in this light, the coil is akin to a "swaddle" protecting an infant.

What may initially appear eerie, the coiled structure takes on a lovely form of gentle affection. For those who have cyclamen at home, flipping the leaves reveals these delightful coils.
