マダガスカル原産の植物の種子の写真となる。


ウンカリーナという名称は、この種子の特徴
とも云える鍵状爪の事を指したものとなる。
写真をよくご覧いただくと、先端には返しの
ついた鉤爪が見られる。これによって動物の
身体にくっついては広範囲に拡散する植物と
なっていて、俗称で呼ばれる『ひっつき虫』
の大型版みたいなもの。この種は別名では
『スパイクシード』とも呼ばれているもの。


シードコレクターに人気のこの種ではあるが
取扱う際に、ピンセットなどを使用しないと
指先に引っ掛かり怪我する可能性ある代物。
片手に引っ掛かり、もう片手で外そうとして
両手が引っ掛かると両手が塞がってしまう為
厄介な事になってしまう。


もちろんヤンチャな仔犬や仔猫などに見せる
と、前脚で確かめたり、口に咥えたりすると
突き刺さる事が必至の危険な代物となるもの
であり、好奇心旺盛である小さなお子さんに
も当たり前に見せてはいけない。


この木は観葉植物としても人気のあるもので
塊根系の形がとても可愛らしい。花も黄色い
優雅な花を咲かせてインテリアにも良いもの
である。雌雄異株の植物なので単独の鉢植で
あるならば種が出来る事もなく安心である。


マダガスカルでは古来から、この葉っぱの
粘性ある汁が洗髪剤に使われていた事から
シャンプーの木と呼ばれているもの。


植物界において、そのデザイニングに優れて
いるものは花だけに留まるだけではない事は
このブログで何度も取り上げている。これは
短い花期以外でも、その美しい葉も鑑賞価値
の高い植物として人気の高いものである。

This is a photo of the seeds of a plant native to Madagascar.


The name "Uncarina" refers to the characteristic claw-like structures of the seeds. If you look closely at the photo, you’ll see that the tips of the claws are barbed. These barbs allow the seeds to attach to animals' bodies and spread over a wide area, much like a larger version of the commonly known "hitchhiker" seeds. These seeds are also known by another name, "spike seeds."


While these seeds are popular among seed collectors, they can cause injury if handled without using tools like tweezers. If one hand gets caught while trying to remove the seed with the other hand, both hands can become ensnared, making it a troublesome situation.


It is, of course, a dangerous item to show to mischievous puppies or kittens, as they might try to paw at it or bite it, leading to the seed piercing them. The same caution applies to showing it to curious young children—it’s definitely something to keep out of their sight.


This tree is also popular as an ornamental plant, with its caudex having a very cute shape. The plant produces elegant yellow flowers, making it an attractive addition to home interiors. Since Uncarina Grandidieri is a dioecious plant, a single potted plant won’t produce seeds, so there’s no need to worry about it spreading.


In Madagascar, the sticky sap from this plant's leaves has been used traditionally as a hair-washing agent, which is why it’s known there as the "Shampoo Tree."
