錦魚葉椿 （キンギョバツバキ）

ツツジ目、ツバキ科、ツバキ属

薮椿（ヤブツバキ）の突然変異種とも云われ
葉の先端が三つ割に拡がったその様を優雅に
泳ぐ金魚の尾鰭（オビレ）に見立てたもの。

この椿は江戸時代には既に知られているもので
出目金（デメキン）や蘭鋳（ランチュウ）など
金魚の世界でも、突然変異や変形金魚が巷にて
噂が噂を呼んだ様に、この椿もまた当時の人達
を大いに喜ばせた品種である。

時を隔て、椿を巡るガイドツアーの中に於いて
ご年配の女性の方々が、魚の形の葉の紹介では
黄色い歓声が沸き起こり、代わる代わるにその
葉先に触れては大喜びをされていた。なかなか
良い光景だと思う。童心に還る場面など必要な
時間なのかも知れない。

KINGYOBA-TSUBAKI

Order Ericales, Family Theaceae, Genus Camellia

It is said to be a mutant species of Yabutsubaki (Japanese camellia), with its leaf tips spreading into three parts, elegantly resembling the tail fin (obire) of a swimming goldfish.

This camellia was already known in the Edo period, and just like in the world of goldfish where mutants and deformed goldfish caused a stir, this camellia delighted people of that time greatly.

Across time, during guided tours around camellias, elderly women would enthusiastically react to the fish-shaped leaves with yellow cheers erupting, eagerly touching the leaf tips one after another with great joy. It's quite a heartwarming sight. Perhaps moments like these are necessary for people to return to their childlike wonder.
