揚げ足を取る（あげあしをとる）
Catching and criticizing or teasing someone over their slips of the tongue or exact wording.

教授は学生の小さな間違いに対して揚げ足を取ることが多く、学生から嫌われている。
きょうじゅはがくせいのちいさなまちがいにたいしてあげあしをとることがおおく、がくせいからきらわれている。
The professor often nitpicks on students' minor mistakes, and is disliked by the students.

板につく（いたにつく）
Gaining experience, one's actions and behavior become well-suited to their position or profession.

彼がチームのキャプテンになって半年が経ったが、最近ようやくキャプテンとして板についてきた。
かれがちーむのきゃぷてんになってはんとしがたったが、さいきんようやくきゃぷてんとしていたについてきた。

Getting along well or hitting if off.
