CNNは2022年12月12日に、1988年12月にロッカービー(Lockerbie)の町の上空でパンナム103便(Pan Am flight 103)を破壊した爆弾の製造に関与した罪に問われているリビア人男性が、現在、米国の拘束下にあると、スコットランドの当局が2022年12月11日日曜日に発表したと報告した。
一般に英語で「Lockerbie bombing」と呼ばれている。
英国王室庁と検察局(UK Crown Office and Prosecutor Fiscal Service)の広報担当者がCNNに語ったところによると、米国は2年前に爆弾テロに関与したとしてアブ・アギラ・モハマド・マスウド・ケイル・アル・マリミ(Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi)を起訴したと語った。
この攻撃では、ロンドンからニューヨークへ向かう際にスコットランドの町の上空で爆弾が爆発し、270人が死亡した。
米司法省(US Justice Department)は2022年12月11日日曜日の朝、「パンナム103便爆破犯容疑者(taken custody of alleged Pan Am flight 103 bombmaker)」アブ・アギラ・モハマド・マスウド・ケイル・アル・マリミの身柄を確保したことを確認する声明を出し、彼が「コロンビア特別区の米連邦地方裁判所に最初に出廷する見込み(initial appearance in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia,)である.]。」声明では出廷の具体的な日程は明らかにされてい無いが、詳細は近日中に発表されると述べている。
アブ・アギラ・モハマド・マスウド・ケイル・アル・マリミは、2年前に米司法省に起訴された際、無関係の罪でリビアで拘束されていた。
イギリス当局者はCNNに対し、「ロッカビー爆破事件で死亡した人々の遺族は、『マスード(Mas’ud)』または『マスード(Masoud)』容疑者が米国で拘束されていると聞かされている。」と述べた。「スコットランドの検察と警察は、イギリス政府および米国の同僚と協力して、アル・メグラヒとともに行動した者を裁くという唯一の目的を持って、この捜査を追求し続ける」と述べた。
アブデルベセット・アリ・モフメッド・アル・メグラヒは、アル・アミン・ハリファ・フィマ(Al Amin Khalifah Fhimah)とともに、機内のスーツケースの中にあった携帯カセット・ラジオ・プレーヤーに爆発物を仕込んだとして告発されました。メグラヒは2001年に懲役27年の判決を受けたが、癌と診断され、出所した。2012年に死亡した。フィマは無罪となった。
ロッカビー爆発事件は、英国で発生したテロ攻撃の中で最も多い死者を出した事件である。
