「ニュウシュウ(Nüshu)」： 中国の女性たちの秘密の言葉と文字

「ニュウシュウ(Nüshu/女书/女書)」または、「women's book(女性の本)」とは、何世紀にもわたって秘密にされてきた文字体系であるという。

封建時代の中国では、女性は教育を受けることができず、夫に縛られ、家から出ることもほとんどありませんでしたが、彼女たちは独自の言語を開発した。この文字コードによって、男性に理解されることなくコミュニケーションをとることができた。しかし、その発祥の地では、現在、一部の女性たちがこの言葉を守ろうと努力している。湖南省から特派員がレポートしている。

そう言えば、西夏文字の本などを読んでいたら、似た文字もあったような気もする。

中国は広いから、まだまだ出てくることだろう。

日本では、平安時代に女文字として平仮名が登場しているが、背景は似ているのかもしれない。
