Forbesは2023年02月27日に、米国エネルギー省(U.S. Energy Departmentは、COVID-19のパンデミックは実験室の漏洩が原因である可能性が高いと結論づけた。米国の多くの研究所を監督するエネルギー省は、新しい情報に基づいてその結論に達したが、その判断の信頼度は「低い」と判断した。
この発見は、多くの科学者の判断と食い違っている。特に、2022年07月に発表された2つの研究は、ウイルスがもともと武漢の食品市場で動物から人間に飛び移ったことを示唆していた。
おのような報道は、中国が武器をロシアに提供する可能性が出てきてから、急浮上いる。
