出刃包丁などの和包丁の柄の交換

和包丁の柄の交換をするときというのは主にヒビが入って割れてきたというのが一番多いのではないでしょうか。ではなぜヒビが入って来たかを説明します。柄の中にささっている部分が錆てその錆が膨らんできて柄に圧力がかかってヒビが入るということです。中には錆がボロボロと落ちてきているような場合は細くなってしまって直すことができない場合もあります。
修理を依頼された場合はその辺を見極めることも重要になってきます。柄を外してしまってから修理不可能の場合もありますから、依頼主にあらかじめ説明してから行うようにしましょう。

金床などの上で金槌を使いたたいて割り、柄をはずします。
柄についている錆を金床の上でたたいて落とします。

ガスバーナーで先が赤くなるまで炙ります。そして柄に差し込み金床の上で柄をトントンまたは木槌で柄のお尻の部分をたたいて入れて行きます。
注意点は、トントンしている時になかなか入らない場合があります。その時は一度抜いて再度ガスバーナーで熱してからやり直してください。無理すると柄が割れてしまうことがあります。
また真っ直ぐに入るように入れるとかに力を上下左右にして調整してやりましょう
