My ten best french Singers/Musicians.

Well, at least, something useful for the people abroad.
I've been raised by musicians, but actually I'm not very good at French music, because it's a bit boring for me. BUT.
You have some very nice artists worth eating if one wants to try a slice of French music.
(everything could be listened to on spotify.)
(Celine dion is not French, she's from Québec, Canada.)

-Patricia Kaas :
Magnificent voice. Her best albums are the ones from the 90's. Absolutely recommend the "Je te dis vous" album.
Raspy voice, perfect interprétation, good piano, émotion, jazz and blues, sometimes akin to cabaret. Delightful.

-Carbon Killer:
Not saying that because he is a dear friend. But because he is a very good heir from all of the line directly from Daft Punk and Justice (that are French too) and that his heavy synthwave is something worth listening to.
Composition speaking he's impressive.

-Yann Tiersen:
Composer. He's made the Amelie Poulain soundtrack (I don't really know how famous this movie is, but evertipe I travel people talk about it.)
He's an extraordinary composer.
Recommend the "J'etais ici" album.
Nowadays is more into lounge stuff that I don't really listen to, but, you know. It's still very good.

-Dionysos:
Rock band lead by a writer and filmmaker.
The albums are formidables and always tell stories related to bookd or movies gravitating around the music.
And the lives are really good.
On spotify you have the "Monsters in Live" album with the whole orchestra behind them. Worth the time spend listening.

-Mylene Farmer:
Basically classy Lady Gaga but goth and French. She knows how to write, her production is eerie and haunting, her shows are mind-blowing, her MVs are pieces of art.
Every album is worth listening to, but maybe "Innamoramento" (meaning blooming love) is considered a classic amongst the fans.

-Waxx:
Okay, this one is an odd favorite of mine.
He's mainly youtuber. Worked making covers with French musicians (French YouTube game is really creative). He's deeply associated with Pomme an other very very good French singer.
Waxx had released a solo album thought, and that hit hard, it was like being a teenager, desperately lonely and smoking in streets, late at night , all over again.
Sad tones, good guitar, sounds like rock from another time and space.

-Daniel Balavoine:
He was a star when he died. His voice remains in our culture like an important milestone.
Tunes so beautiful and pure that everyone knows them by heart. I thinks there has been one or two Japanese covers of his songs, but really, the original is perfect.

-Cecile Corbel:
What could be considered as traditional French Celtic music. We have a spot here in France where Celts still live and speak about their legends, where the forests are full of fairies and monsters feom other times.
Cecile Corbel she sings about that. About that, about the lost times of Bretagne, about the pubs of Belfast, about the lost Kinf of Fairies. It's beautiful.
And and she has worked for Miyazaki. She's the one that has made the Arietty soundtrack.

-Supreme NTM:
The big Daddies of French Rap scene that inspired several generations.
You have the rapper : McSolaar too that is very good to, more chill.
I don't even like rap music but I listen to them from time to time. The flow is incredible and the voice is mastered like crazy.

-Francis Cabrel:
He's made balads that make us sing for ages. He's still playing and every of his songs touches right.
He has a southern accent that soinds like the sun, and his poetry is well in tune with his melodies. He has composed all of his songs, because he's very good folk guitar player.
Entertaining to listen even if you don't understand the language.

Well that was fun to do.
I tried to stay as eclectic as I could eben if my French tastes are a bit dated.
I will try to do the same kind of lists with different genres of music and maybe with Uk and US as I'm way more aware about that kind of music.
Maybe real pagan music but that's SO specific… well. We'll see.
And we'll see if I think about it.

See yah.
