木炭は黒炭白炭だけじゃない
この動画では、日本の木炭分類法の２つの注意点と、一般社団法人全国燃料協会の「木炭の規格」への提案をお話しています。

言うまでもなく日本の木炭規格はあくまで「日本の木炭に適用すること」を前提としています。
そのため、そのまま諸外国の木炭を分類するために適用したり、これを使って説明することはできません。
この規格はあくまでも日本産の木炭か、日本向けに作られた外国製木炭にしか適用できません。
②説明上の注意
また、日本の木炭を前提にしても、たしかに流通量はごくわずかですが黒炭白炭以外の木炭も存在します。
そのため、「木炭には黒炭と白炭がある」と言い切る説明を見るたびに、黒炭白炭以外の炭が寂しそうだなと思ってしまいます。
現在の「木炭の規格」が抱える課題
農林水産省の農林規格の時代では、まず白炭を定義してそれ以外を黒炭として二分するかなり大雑把な定義でした。
そのためこの農林規格では窯を使用して製炭した「黒炭」と、いわゆる野焼きや伏せ焼きのような「窯を使わないで製炭した木炭」を区別することができませんでした。
2003年に、時代を経て風化してしまったかつての木炭規格を復活させるべく、一般社団法人全国燃料協会が「木炭の規格」を公表しました。
ただし、内容はともかく表記の仕方に課題が残っていると私は考えています。

(社)全国燃料協会が公表している現在の「木炭の規格」は、結果的に誤解を招きやすい表記になってしまっています。
あたかも木炭の種類が６種類に大別されるかのような並記を改め、大分類として３種類の並記にとどめ、中分類として備長炭とオガ炭（黒、白）を配置したほうが誤認をさけることができると思っています。
奈良文化財研究所の遺跡総覧中の資料に、理想的な表現を見ることができます。
木炭は大きく分けて白炭、黒炭、その他の木炭の３種類がある。この３者は製炭法が異なり、製炭法の違いから性質も異なる。
この木炭分類法の表現が、誤認を招くことがないもっとも適切な表現だと私は考えています。
この提案を公開する理由
一業界団体への提案を公開しようと思ったのは、木炭業界に限らず広く様々な分野の方々からいただける賛否等をコメント欄に残せるのではないかと期待したからです。
私の誤解やひょっとしたらもっと良い分類方法があるのではないかとも思っています。
最後に、この動画は「木炭には黒炭と白炭がある」といった一般的な説明や、一般社団法人全国燃料協会が公表している現在の「木炭の規格」を批判するものではありません。
あくまでも今後のための建設的な意見として記録したものです。

Needless to say, the Japanese charcoal standard is based on the assumption that Japanese charcoal is used. Therefore, it cannot be applied to classify charcoal from other countries as it is, nor can it be used to explain charcoal from other countries.
It can only be applied to Japanese charcoal or foreign charcoal made for the Japanese market.
Even assuming Japanese charcoal, there are other types of charcoal than black charcoal and white charcoal, although the amount in circulation is very small.
Therefore, whenever I see an explanation that asserts that "there is black charcoal and white charcoal in charcoal," I think that charcoal other than black charcoal and white charcoal looks lonely.

The current "charcoal standards" published by the National Fuel Association are also misleading as a result, although probably not intended that way.
I think it would be better to change the listings as if there were six types of charcoal, and instead list only three major categories, with binchotan and oga charcoal (black and white) in the middle category, to avoid misunderstandings.

The reason for publishing this proposal
The reason for publishing this proposal is that I was hoping that I could leave some comments in the comments section with the pros and cons, etc. that I could receive from people in various fields, not only from the charcoal industry but from a wide variety of fields.
I am also wondering if I have misunderstood or perhaps there is a better way to categorize them.
Finally, this video is not intended to be a general explanation such as "there are two types of charcoal, black charcoal and white charcoal," or a criticism of the current "charcoal standards" published by the National Fuel Association, but is recorded only as a constructive opinion for the future.
