かぐらつとめ
朝夕のおつとめ（座りづとめ）

Sweeping away evils, please save us,
Tenri-O-no-Mikoto.

あしきをはらうてたすけたまへ
てんりわうのみこと



Just a word: Listen to what God says.  
ちよとはなしかみのいふこときいてくれ


I will never tell you anything wrong.
あしきのことはいはんでな


Representing heaven and earth,
このよのぢいとてんとをかたどりて


I have created husband and wife.
ふうふをこしらへきたるでな


This is the beginning of the world.
これハこのよのはじめだし
なむてんりわうのみこと



Sweep away evils, hasten to save us.
あしきをはらうてたすけせきこむ

All humankind equally purified, The Kanrodai.
いちれつすまして かんろだい

十二下りのておどり


Yorozuyo よろづよ八首

Looking all over the world and through all ages,
よろづよのせかい一れつみはらせど
I find no one who has understood My heart.
むねのわかりたものはない

So it should be, for I have never taught it before,
そのはずやといてきかしたことハない
It is natural that you know nothing
しらぬがむりでハないわいな

This time I, God, revealing Myself to the fore,
このたびはかみがおもてへあらわれて
Teach you all the truth in detail.
なにかいさいをときゝかす

You are calling this place the Jiba, the home of God, in Yamato;
このところやまとのぢばのかみがたと
But you do not know of its origin.
いうていれどももとしらぬ

If you are told of this origin in full,
このもとをくはしくきいた事ならバ
Great yearning will come over you, whoever you may be.
いかなものでもこいしなる

If you wish to hear and will come to Me,
きゝたくバたづねくるならいうてきかす
I will tell you the truth that this place is the origin of any and everything.
よろづいさいのもとなるを

When I, God, reveal Myself and teach you everything in detail,
かみがでゝなにかいさいをとくならバ
All people in the world will become cheerful.
せかい一れついさむなり

As I hasten to save all of you equally,
一れつにはやくたすけをいそぐから
I will set out to cheer up all theminds of the world.
せかいのこゝろもいさめかけ


なむてんりわうのみこと

Song One 一下り目

First, At New Year, the Sazuke of fertilizer: How remarkable it is!
一ッ　正月こゑのさづけは
やれめづらしい

Second, Smilingly, being bestowed the Sazuke: How promising it is!
二ニ　につこりさづけもろたら
やれたのもしや

Third, Keep the mind of a three-year-old child!
三ニ　さんざいこゝろをさだめ

Fourth, Then, a rich harvest.
四ッ　よのなか

Fifth, The providences shall come forth.
五ッ　りをふく

Sixth, Unlimited abundance everywhere.
六ッ　むしやうにでけまわす

Seventh, If you grow and reap whatever you wish,
七ッ　なにかにつくりとるなら

Eighth, Yamato will be blessed with a rich harvest.
八ッ　やまとハほうねんや

Ninth, Now come hither and follow me!
九ッ　こゝまでついてこい

Tenth, Then the full harvest will become fixed.
十ド　とりめがさだまりた
なむてんりわうのみこと　なむてんりわうのみこと

Song Two 二下り目

Tong! Tong! Tong! The beginning of the dancing at New Year:
とん／＼とんと正月をどりはじめハ
How delightful it is!
やれおもしろい

Second, This marvelous construction, once it has begun:
二ッ　ふしぎなふしんかゝれバ
How lively it is!
やれにぎはしや

Third, Nourishment will be put on you.
三ッ　みにつく

Fourth, The world will change to prosperity.
四ッ　よなほり

Fifth, If all come and follow me,
五ッ　いづれもつきくるならば

Sixth, I will cut off the root of rebellion.
六ッ　むほんのねえをきらふ

Seventh, If you help others who are suffering,
七ッ　なんじふをすくひあぐれバ

Eighth, I will cut off the root of illness.
八ッ　やまひのねをきらふ

Ninth, If you keep your mind determined,
九ッ　こゝろをさだめゐやうなら

Tenth, Peace shall reign everywhere.
十デ　ところのをさまりや
なむてんりわうのみこと　なむてんりわうのみこと

Song Three  三下り目

First、At Shoyashiki in the homeland of the Sun,
一ッ　ひのもとしよやしきの
this place for the Service is the origin of the world.
つとめのばしよハよのもとや

Second、This marvelous place for the Service，
二ッ　ふしぎなつとめばしよハ
though I ask no one to build it.
たれにたのみはかけねども

Third、All gathering together from the world, the construction has been accomplished.
三ッ　みなせかいがよりあうて
How miraculous it is!
でけたちきたるがこれふしぎ

Fourth、With much effort, you have followed me thus far;
四ッ　よう／＼こゝまでついてきた
True salvation will begin from now.
じつのたすけハこれからや

FIfth、Always ridiculed and slandered,
五ッ　いつもわらはれそしられて
Still I will realize remarkable salvation.
めづらしたすけをするほどに

Sixth、Never make an unreasonable prayer!
六ッ　むりなねがひはしてくれな
Come to me with a single mind!
ひとすぢごゝろになりてこい

Seventh、Whatever may happen, from now on, I will go single-heartedly leaning on God.
七ッ　なんでもこれからひとすぢに
かみにもたれてゆきまする

Eighth、There is nothing so trying as illness;
八ッ　やむほどつらいことハない
so from now on, I, too, will devote myself to hinokishin.
わしもこれからひのきしん

Ninth、Though I have Believed thus far,
九ッ　こゝまでしん／＼゛したけれど
I did not know that You are the original God.
もとのかみとハしらなんだ

Finally、This time, You have revealed Yourself.
十ド　このたびあらはれた
No doubt You are the true God.
じつのかみにはさうゐない

なむてんりわうのみこと　なむてんりわうのみこと

Song Four  四下り目

First, Whatever others may say;
一ッ　ひとがなにごといはうとも
God is watching, so be at ease!
かみがみているきをしずめ

Second, Settle the minds of the two of you in one accord!
二ッ　ふたりのこゝろををさめいよ
Then anything and everything shall be realized.
なにかのことをもあらはれる

Third, All of you close to me, watch whatever God acts and works!
三ッ　みなみてゐよそばなもの
かみのすることなすことを

Fourth, Night and day, dong! chang! We perform the service;
四ッ　よるひるどんちやんつとめする
The neighbors may feel it is noisy and annoying.
そばもやかましうたてかろ

Fifth, As I am always in haste to save you,
五ッ　いつもたすけがせくからに
Quickly become joyful and come to me!
はやくやうきになりてこい

Sixth, Villagers I wish to save at once,
六ッ　むらかたはやくにたすけたい
But they do not understand My heart.
なれどこゝろがわからいで

Seventh, Helping each other in anything and everything,
七ッ　なにかよろづのたすけあい
Ponder over it from your innermost heart!
むねのうちよりしあんせよ

Eighth, All illness shall be completely rooted out,
八ッ　やまひのすつきりねはぬける
And step by step your hearts will become cheerful.
こゝろハだん／＼いさみくる

Ninth, Here is paradise on this earth.
九ッ　こゝはこのよのごくらくや
I, too, wish to go quickly to Worship.
わしもはや／＼まゐりたい

Tenth, This time, my innermost heart has become completely pure. How grateful I am!
十ド　このたびむねのうち
すみきりましたがありがたい
なむてんりわうのみこと　なむてんりわうのみこと

Song Five  五下り目

First, As this world is so wide,
一ッ　ひろいせかいのうちなれバ
There may be various places to save people.
たすけるところがまゝあらう

Second, Miraculous salvation at this place,
二ッ　ふしぎなたすけハこのところ
I grant you safe childbirth and freedom from smallpox.
おびやはうそのゆるしだす

Third, God, the same as water, washes away the dirt from your minds.
三ッ　みづとかみとはおなじこと
こゝろのよごれをあらひきる

Fourth, Though there is no one who is free from greed,
四ッ　よくのないものなけれども
before God there is no greed.
かみのまへにハよくはない

Fifth, However long you may continue to believe,
五ツ　いつまでしん／＼゛したとても
Your life shall ever be filled with joy.
やうきづくめであるほどに

Sixth, Forgetting away a cruel heart,
六ッ　むごいこゝろをうちわすれ
come to me with a gentle heart!
やさしきこゝろになりてこい

Seventh, Assuredly I shall never leave you in suffering,
七ッ　なんでもなんぎハさゝぬぞへ
because this is the place of single-hearted salvation.
たすけいちじよのこのところ

Eighth, Not only in Yamato,
八ッ　やまとばかりやないほどに
I will also go to other countries to save you all.
くに／＼までへもたすけゆく

Ninth, This is the Jiba, the origin of this world.
九ッ　こゝはこのよのもとのぢば
Indeed a remarkable place has been revealed.
めづらしところがあらはれた

Since we are firmly determined to believe,
どうでもしん／＼゛するならバ
let us form a brotherhood.
かうをむすぼやないかいな
なむてんりわうのみこと　なむてんりわうのみこと

Song Six  六下り目

First, Human minds are so deeply doubtful.
一ッ　ひとのこゝろといふものハ
うたがひぶかいものなるぞ

Second, As I work miraculous salvation,
二ッ　ふしぎなたすけをするからに
I discern anything and everything.
いかなることをもみさだめる

Third, The innermost hearts of all in the world,
三ッ　みなせかいのむねのうち
Are reflected in Me as in a mirror.
かゞみのごとくにうつるなり

Fourth, I am pleased that you have followed to join the Service.
四ッ　ようこそつとめについてきた
This Service is the fundamental way for salvation.
これがたすけのもとだてや

Fifth, Always performing the Kagura and Teodori,
五ツ　いつもかぐらやてをどりや
In the future I will work remarkable salvation.
すゑではめづらしたすけする

Sixth, You make prayers thoughtlessly.
六ッ　むしやうやたらにねがひでる
The ways of My response are also a thousand.
うけとるすぢもせんすぢや

Seventh, However eagerly you may believe,
七ッ　なんぼしん／＼゛したとても
Never entertain wrong thoughts!
こゝろえちがひはならんぞへ

Eighth, After all you must continue to believe.
八ッ　やつぱりしん／＼゛せにやならん
If you entertain wrong thoughts, you are to start anew.
こゝろえちがひ はでなほしや

Ninth, Having believed thus far until now,
九ッ　こゝまでしん／＼゛してからハ
You should be shown your merit.
ひとつのかうをもみにやならぬ

Tenth, This time, it has appeared.
十ド　このたびみえました
The invocation of the fans, how marvelous it is!
あふぎのうかゞひこれふしぎ
なむてんりわうのみこと　なむてんりわうのみこと

Song Seven 七下り目

First, A single word can be hinokishin.
一ッ　ひとことはなしハひのきしん
I simply sprinkle my fragrance around.
にほひばかりをかけておく

Second, As my intention is so profound,
二ッ　ふかいこゝろがあるなれバ
no one should prevent it.
たれもとめるでないほどに

Third, There is no one in the world, Whose mind does not desire to own a field.
三ッ　みなせかいのこゝろにハ
でんぢのいらぬものハない

Fourth, If there is a good field, everyone will equally desire to own it.
四ッ　よきぢがあらバ一れつに
たれもほしいであらうがな

Fifth, It is the same with everyone,
五ツ　いづれのかたもおなしこと
I, too, wish to own such a good field.
わしもあのぢをもとめたい

Sixth, I never compel you to do this or that.
六ッ　むりにどうせといはんでな
That is left to your own heart.
そこはめい／＼のむねしだい

Seventh, I wish to get the field by any means,
七ッ　なんでもでんぢがほしいから
No matter what the price may be.
あたへハなにほどいるとても

Eighth, As this Residence is the field of God,
八ッ　やしきハかみのでんぢやで
Every seed sown here will sprout.
まいたるたねハみなはへる

Ninth, Since this is the field of this world,
九ッ　こゝハこのよのでんぢなら
I, too, will sow the seed devotedly.
わしもしつかりたねをまこ

Finally, This time, I am glad to see that All of you equally have come here to sow the seed;
十ド　このたびいちれつに
ようこそたねをまきにきた
Those who have sown the seed,
たねをまいたるそのかたハ
Shall reap a rich harvest without fertilizing
こえをおかずにつくりとり
なむてんりわうのみこと　なむてんりわうのみこと

Song Eight  八下り目

In this wide world and its many countries;
一ッ　ひろいせかいやくになかに
Are there no stones or standing trees?
いしもたちきもないかいな

Though I carry out marvelous construction,
二ッ　ふしぎなふしんをするなれど
I never ask a favor of anyone.
たれにたのみハかけんでな

All coming together from the world one after another,
三ッ　みなだん／＼とせかいから
It will be accomplished.
よりきたことならでけてくる

Forgetting away the mind of greed,
四ッ　よくのこゝろをうちわすれ
Set out to determine your mind firmly!
とくとこゝろをさだめかけ

However long you may hesitate,
五ツ　いつまでみあわせゐたるとも
It will never be accomplished by yourselves.
うちからするのやないほどに

Never hasten so thoughtlessly!
六ッ　むしやうやたらにせきこむな
Ponder over it from your innermost heart!
むねのうちよりしあんせよ

Seventh, When your mind becomes somewhat purified,
七ッ　なにかこゝろがすんだなら
Begin the construction at once!
はやくふしんにとりかゝれ

Having entered into the mountains,
八ッ　やまのなかへといりこんで
I have already seen the stones and standing trees.
いしもたちきもみておいた

Ninth, Whether to cut down this tree or to take that stone;
九ッ　このききらうかあのいしと
It entirely depends upon the heart of God.
おもへどかみのむねしだい

Finally. This time, the hearts of all equally Have become completely purified.
十ド　このたびいちれつに
すみきりましたがむねのうち
なむてんりわうのみこと　なむてんりわうのみこと

Song Nine 九下り目

一ッ　ひろいせかいをうちまわり
一せん二せんでたすけゆく
First,  Clapping around the wide world, and cleaning human hearts once and twice, I will advance the work of salvation.


二ッ　ふじゆうなきやうにしてやらう
かみのこゝろにもたれつけ
Second,  Against any hardship I will protect you: So lean closely on the mind of God!


Third,  Looking into all minds of the world, I find greed intermingled.
三ッ　みれバせかいのこゝろにハ
よくがまじりてあるほどに

Fourth,  If you have greed, cast it away! Because God cannot accept it.
四ッ　よくがあるならやめてくれ
かみのうけとりでけんから

Fifth,  It is the same with everyone. Determine your mind and follow me!
五ツ　いづれのかたもおなじこと
しあんさだめてついてこい

Sixth,  I never compel you to go forth, until you determine your own minds.
六ッ　むりにでやうといふでない
こゝろさだめのつくまでハ

Seventh,  Indeed, this time all of you equally must ponder over it deeply.
七ッ　なか／＼このたびいちれつに
しつかりしあんをせにやならん

Eighth,  Even in the mountains, here and there, The Service of Tenri-O is performed.
八ッ　やまのなかでもあちこちと
てんりわうのつとめする

Ninth,  Though people are performing the Service here, No one understands My heart.
九ッ　こゝでつとめをしてゐれど
むねのわかりたものハない

Now that you are calling the name of God, Come forth quickly to the original home!
とてもかみなをよびだせば
はやくこもとへたづねでよ

なむてんりわうのみこと　なむてんりわうのみこと




Song Ten  十下り目


The human mind cannot understand truth easily.
一ッ　ひとのこゝろといふものハ
ちよとにわからんものなるぞ

Though I have been working miracles of salvation,
二ッ　ふしぎなたすけをしてゐれど
this is the first time that I reveal myself.
あらはれでるのがいまはじめ

This mud in the water,
三ッ　みづのなかなるこのどろう
I wish you to take it out quickly.
はやくいだしてもらひたい

Greed is fathomless like muddy water.
四ッ　よくにきりないどろみづや
When your mind is completely purified, then comes paradise.
こゝろすみきれごくらくや

Forever this shall become the seed of stories.
五ツ　いつ／＼までもこのことハ
はなしの たねになるほどに

Though I have spoken such severe words,
六ッ　むごいことばをだしたるも
it is because of my haste to save you.
はやくたすけをいそぐから

Suffering comes from your own mind.
七ッ　なんぎするのもこゝろから
So you should reproach yourself.
わがみうらみであるほどに

Though illness is so trying,
八ッ　やまひはつらいものなれど
No one has ever known its origin.
もとをしりたるものハない

Until this time all of you equally Have been ignorant of the origin of illness.
九ッ　このたびまでハいちれつに
やまひのもとハしれなんだ

This time, it has been revealed.
十ド　このたびあらはれた
The origin of illness lies in your own mind.
やまひのもとハこゝろから
なむてんりわうのみこと　なむてんりわうのみこと




Song Eleven 十一下り目

At Shoyashiki in the homeland of the Sun, The Jiba, the abode of God, is to be identified.
一ッ　ひのもとしよやしきの
かみのやかたのぢばさだめ

Husband and wife working together in hinokishin; This is the first seed of everything.
二ッ　ふうふそろうてひのきしん
これがだいゝちものだねや

I behold more and more people coming from the world, And bearing straw baskets in hinokishin.
三ッ　みれバせかいがだん／＼と
もつこになうてひのきしん

Forgetting greed we work in hinokishin. This becomes the first fertilizer.
四ッ　よくをわすれてひのきしん
これがだいゝちこえとなる

Forever continues the carrying of earth. If yet it continues, I, too, will go.
五ツ　いつ／＼までもつちもちや
まだあるならバわしもゆこ

Do not unreasonably stop anyone!
六ッ　むりにとめるやないほどに
I welcome any and everyone who is willing.
こゝろあるならたれなりと

How remarkable this carrying of earth is,
七ッ　なにかめづらしつちもちや
When it serves as a contribution to God!
これがきしんとなるならバ

Digging up the earth of the Residence, You just carry it from one place to another.
八ッ　やしきのつちをほりとりて
ところかへるばかりやで

Until this time, no one has ever understood My heart: How regretful it is!
九ッ　このたびまではいちれつに
むねがわからんざんねんな

This year, without fertilizing, We reaped a sufficient harvest. Oh, how delighted we are! How thankful we are!
十ド　ことしハこえおかず
じふぶんものをつくりとり
やれたのもしやありがたや
なむてんりわうのみこと　なむてんりわうのみこと






Song Twelve  十二下り目

Initially to the invocation of the carpenter,
一ッ　いちにだいくのうかゞひに
I leave any and every detail.
なにかのこともまかせおく

When you begin the marvelous construction, give instructions after invoking My will!
二ッ　ふしぎなふしんをするならバ
うかゞひたてゝていひつけよ

From all over the world, the carpenters are coming one after another. Sprinkle My fragrance on them!
三ッ　みなせかいからだん／＼と
きたるだいくににほいかけ

When you find good masters,
四ッ　よきとうりやうかあるならバ
quickly bring them to this original home!
はやくこもとへよせておけ

In the future four masters will be needed.
五ツ　いづれとうりやうよにんいる
Quickly invoke My will!
はやくうかゞいたてゝみよ

I never compel you to come forth. Yet you will come along one after another.
六ッ　むりにこいとハいはんでな
いづれだん／＼つきくるで

Ever so remarkable is this work of construction; Once begun, there shall be no end to it.
七ッ　なにかめづらしこのふしん
しかけたことならきりハない

When you go into the mountains, take with you the wood master!
八ッ　やまのなかへとゆくならバ
あらきとうりやうつれてゆけ

Here are the fine work master, The framing master and the planer.
九ッ　これハこざいくとうりやうや
たてまへとうりやうこれかんな

This time, all the members of the carpenters have assembled.
十ド　このたびいちれつに
だいくのにんもそろひきた
なむてんりわうのみこと　なむてんりわうのみこと
