Should people's salaries be based on their job performance?

I think that people's salaries should be based on their job performance in terms of motivation and skills. 

I have two reasons to support my opinion. 
It is often said that the best way to enhance workers's motivation is giving them more wages. 
If they notice that things, they must be more effort to make their skills up throughout. 
Also, worker's skills, for example, sales talking, making good products, and graphic design are usually invisible things. 
Employers need to justly evaluate them. 
By doing so, companies could have more profits, and workers's productivity would be enhanced. 
For these reasons, I believe that people's salaries should be based on their job performance.
