なぜ英語でプログラミングなのか。それは英語もプログラミングも、誰かと何かをクリエーションするためとその実務において、圧倒的に有利な国際言語だからです。できることにより、人生の選択肢は格段に増えます。
新学習指導要領により小学校での外国語教育とプログラミングの必修化が始まっています。スタートしたばかりですが、英語もプログラミングも習得するにあたって一番大事なのは「場数」。したがって学校教育と連携していくためにも、その機会を私たちなりに提供していきたいと考えています。
英語学習の目的に関してお伝えしたいのは、英語で情報を取れると、英語で色んな国の人と直接コミュニケーションできると、日本語だけの世界では得られない視点や自分との思わぬ共通点を発見したりして、自分の中の思考に多様性が生まれて、それがすごく面白い！ということ。そして世界中の色んなバックグラウンドの人たちと一緒に遊んだり、将来仕事ができるようになるということ。これをぜひ子供たちに体験してもらいたいです。
英語学習の方法に関しては、アルファベットと基本的な文法をもとに、語彙力（知っている単語やイディオムの多さ）を増やしながら、話す、聞く、読む、書くを日々トレーニングする、シンプルにこの継続が力になります。私の友人で英語が頭一つ抜けてできる人たちに共通しているのは「海外で、英語しか通じない環境で過ごした」経験です。それに近い環境を日本で提供していきたいと考えています。
もちろん、英語の授業についていけるかな？という不安だけが先行しては学習効果も薄れるので、日本語でのサポートもしていきます。同時に大事にしていきたいのは、自分が理解したいこと、自分が伝えたいことを自分で調べたり、周囲に聞くという習慣を身に着けること。英語学習に終わりはなく、プロの通訳者の方でも日々辞書を片手に勉強されています。そういった学習方法が自然と身につくことも目指しています。
プログラミング学習の目的に関しては、やはり、自分が好きなものを、あるいは自分や誰かにとって必要なものを自分で作れる、その醍醐味を味わえるということです。プログラミング言語とはコンピューターと人間の間でコミュニケーションをするための、コンピューターに実行して欲しいことを指示するための言語です。私たちの社会生活のありとあらゆるシステムやサービスがプログラミングによって支えられています。
例えば、今、私はこのnoteを駅近くのカフェでノートパソコンを開いてブラウザ上で書いています。斜め前の席の人は私と同じく、ノートパソコンで仕事をしています。エクセルに何らかのデータを打ち込んでいるようです。そして右隣の方はスマホでゲームをしながら、ノートパソコンでゲーム実況の動画をYoutubeで見ています。その先にあるレジではカフェの定員さんがお会計の対応をしていて、同時にお客さんが提示したお店のアプリのバーコードをスキャナーで読みとり、ポイントを付与しています。駅直結のカフェのため、私の左の方向には改札が見えていて、電車に乗る人、降りてきた人が常時スイカやパスモをかざして往来しています。
これは今まさしく私の目の前で起きていることです。ノートパソコン、ブラウザ、エクセル、スマホ、ゲーム、Youtube、レジ、アプリ、バーコード、スキャナー、改札、電車etc すべてプログラムがもとになっているシステムやサービスです。そしてその裏には、自分が好きなものを作りたい、あるいは自分や誰かにとって必要なものを作りたい、という人の存在があります。
いつの時代も未来を創るのは若者、子供たちです。
子供たちが、将来も、いや人生をかけてずっと自分が好きなものや誰かにとって必要なものを一生懸命作っていけたら最高です。
そのための原体験と具体的なスキルを私たちは提供していきます。
例えば私たちのコースではグラフィックを描いたり、アニメやゲームを作ったり、ホームページを作ったりと色んなモノやコトを作ることができます。そして子供たちがさらに夢中になれるように、ストーリーや世界観も大事にしています。ヒーローとなってお姫様を助けに行ったり、火星に向かう宇宙飛行士になったり、ITスタートアップにインターンに参加することになったり。Googleサービスの使い方を学ぶ、そんな実務的な内容もあります。各コースの特徴などはまたこちらやホームページでもご案内していきたいと考えています。
誰もがプログラマー、エンジニアになるわけではありませんが、誰もが経験する価値がある、それがプログラミングです。
そして、なぜ英語でプログラミングなのか、についてです。これはワンセットで学ぶ方が双方の学習効果が高いからです。すでにそれぞれの分野のプロフェッショナルも、その効果性に関して発信をされています。プログリッドさん、コードキャンプさんのメディアの記事にとてもわかりやすく書かれていますので、これを機会にぜひ参考にしてみてください。
言語を学ぶということは、文化を学ぶということであり、英語を通して得られる文化、プログラミング言語を得て得られる文化、その先に広がる世界を子供たちにぜひ経験していただきたいと思います。
私は40代で地方出身（高知県）です。私が小さい頃にはこのような経験をしようとしたり、あるいは想像したりすること自体ほとんどありませんでしたが、テクノロジーの進化によって、今はパソコン・タブレットがあれば、どこでも誰でもその経験をすることができます。
したがって東京をスタートに、全国に展開していきたいと考えています。

We have just opened the international programming school "Algorithmics" in Futako-Tamagawa, Setagaya. Here students can learn programming English.
"Algorithmics" is one of the fastest-growing international programming schools for children. The school got multiple awards and recognition from Forbes and the Global Edtech Startups Awards Competition, etc. 150,000 children already study programming at “Algorithmics” in 30 countries. We are the first FC in Japan. For students from kindergartens to high school, we offer educational content that fits their respective ages, experiences, and skills.
Why programming in English?
It's because both English and programming are advantageous international languages for co-creating with others. It will give you a wider variety of life choices. The Japanese government introduced new teaching guidelines for elementary schools: requiring them to teach foreign languages and programming on their programs. Although it has just begun, the most crucial thing in mastering English and programming is to have lots of first-hand experiences. Therefore, to collaborate with school education, we would like to provide that opportunity for children.
The purpose of English learning is to access all the information and communicate directly with people worldwide to discover and explore yourself from many points of view that you cannot obtain in Japanese society. This creates diversity in your own thinking, which is extremely interesting. And it will allow you to play and work with people from various backgrounds. I would love to have children experience it as well.
In terms of learning English, persistence pays off: continuous speaking, listening, reading, and writing while increasing vocabulary based on the understanding of the alphabet and basic grammar. What is common to my friends who are good at English is their prior experience of time abroad in an environment where they can only communicate in English. So we would like to provide a similar environment in Japan.
Of course, if children feel uncomfortable in such an environment, we will also support them in Japanese since their anxiety would weaken the learning effect. Self-efficacy is important for everyone. At the same time, I want to emphasize the importance of children acquiring the skill to research and ask themselves the things they want to portray. There is no end to learning English, and even professional interpreters study with dictionaries every day. It is our goal to help them build such a learning method for their own future career.
The best part of learning programming is creating your hobby or creating to meet someone's needs. A programming language is a tool to communicate with a computer and let it do the job. Every system and service in our society is built and supported by programming.
For example, I am now sitting on the sofa at a café near my nearest station and writing this note on the browser on my laptop. The person sitting in front of me is also working on a laptop. He seems to type some data into Excel. The person on the right is playing a game on a smartphone while watching its instructional video on Youtube on a laptop. Next to him, there is the cafe's cash register where a cashier deals with the customer's payment. Simultaneously, she is scanning the barcode of the shop's app for the customer to give shopping points. On the left, the cafe is directly connected to the station, where I can see the ticket gates. People taking the train or coming down are always passing the gates, beeping their prepaid IC card. This is exactly what is happening around me right now.
Laptop, internet browser, Excel, smartphone, game, Youtube, cash register, app, barcode, scanner, ticket gate, train, etc. All these systems, products, and services are built and operated by programming. There are people behind them: passionate about creating what they want or creating for people who need help.
Our future is created by the future leader: the younger generation, our children. It would be great if children could devote themselves to create something in need for themselves and someone else.
We will provide formative experiences and specific skills for this purpose.
Actually, in the courses we offer, children can experience various things, such as drawing graphics, making animations and games, and creating websites. The original storyline and its worldview are also important for children to become even more engrossed. Children can become a knight to help a princess, become an astronaut heading to Mars, or participate in an IT startup internship. There are also practical contents like learning how to use Google services. I want to inform you about the features of each course here and on our website.
Not everyone becomes a programmer or engineer, but it's worth it for everyone to experience. That is programming.
And now I want to explain why we program in English. This is because English is the international language used all over the world. In computer programming, most of the commonly used programming languages are English-based. Most of them are built that way to appeal to an international audience and community.
Learning a language means learning a culture. I hope that children will feel and experience both culture and the world that spreads beyond that.
I am in my 40s, born and raised in a rural area, Kochi Prefecture. When I was little, I rarely tried or imagined such an experience. Now, with the evolution of technology, anyone with a computer or tablet can have that experience.
Therefore, we started this school in Tokyo and will expand it nationwide.
