I am Khine Zar from Airitech and also a core member of Women in AI(WAI). I would like to share my experience of WaiTalk Online event.

Event Name: WaiTalk Japan ( AI for everyone )
Hosted by WAI Japan Team

Firstly, WAI Japan team introduced the WAI and WAI Japan Team.

After that, the main speaker Dr. Kanako Onishi, a researcher from NTT DOCOMO, started her speech with the title "AI for Everyone."
She is an author of “ いちばんやさしいAI “ book. She introduced the concept of AI briefly, pointed out that AI is everywhere, and then she shared some tips to enter the field of AI study for beginners.
Since this is an event specifically for WAI Japan, she spoke in Japanese language for her talk.
However, we had no problem comprehending what she meant by AI due to her easy to understand Japanese and in-depth explanations.
She started by defining AI with simple terms. According to her, the things that AI performs can be demonstrated as follow:

1. Recognition
2. Prediction
3. Classification

She explained the above terms with examples. Then, she proceeded with her research work.
Her current research is a dialogue engine. She explained how AI is used in a dialogue engine.

After the presentation, there was a Q/A session and I would like to share the two questions that I loved most.

Question 1

Questioner: You mentioned AI could do recognition, prediction and classification. For the dialogue engine, which one do you use and which one is given the most priority among them?

Speaker: The dialogue engine's results are generated based on questions, so all three types are used in equal priority, but the one most commonly used is classification.

Question 2

Questioner: I am starting to learn AI. Is there any recommendation that you would like to give?

Speaker: Nowadays, the study of AI can be approached in various ways. Some prefer to apply it to business cases while others prefer to develop AI. Which one would you like to ask?
Questioner: As an engineer.

Speaker: Then, I would like to recommend to start reading about AI and Machine Learning(ML). Don't start with difficult ones. I mean, there are easy introductory books that explain AI in general.

Then, explore about AI and AI-based website that you may be interested in. Try free AI tools for developers. From that, you will discover which research field you would like to explore. Then, read the books in that research area and continue your study. There are a lot of AI/ML books. Please check the reviews and choose ones with better reviews. If you start with a deep theory book of AI/ML, you will be stressed. You can't study when you feel depressed and tired. So, start with an easy one.

After the Q/A session, WAI Japan Team ended the event with their member invitation.

To conclude, I think Dr. Kanako Onishi's presentation slides and the way she explains things were simple and effective for beginners.
As an ML enthusiast, I learned about how to explain the AI to beginners in a natural way.
Although the event was only one hour, we learned a lot about AI. So, I would like to recommend people who are interested in AI to attend this kind of event hosted by WAI in the future.
