When people with developmental disabilities find it hard to live

Have you ever heard the term "developmental disability"? You may have even heard it on TV. Today, I would like to talk about what kind of difficulties people with developmental disabilities feel in life.

First, I would like to briefly explain what developmental disabilities are. A developmental disability is a person who is born with an unbalanced brain function that makes it difficult for him or her to live in society.

The important point here is not that the person has a disability, but rather, that it interferes with his or her social life. It is not due to poor parenting or lack of effort on the part of the individual. It may or may not be inherited.

Developmental disabilities are generally defined as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and learning disability (LD). Some people have both of these disorders. For example, I have ADHD and ASD.

It is true that some people with these disabilities are wonderfully gifted. Einstein, the Nobel Prize winner in physics, is said to have had ASD, and Edison, the inventor king, is said to have had ADHD.

However, even these gifted individuals experience countless difficulties in their daily lives.

People with ADHD may repeatedly forget things or become restless.

People with ASD may have strong obsessions or have difficulty considering the feelings of others.

People with LD may have difficulty with even simple calculations.

These characteristics can be alleviated by rehabilitation, but cannot be cured.

We hope that many people will have a proper understanding of developmental disabilities and sometimes support them. Perhaps you may not know what to do. But even just a warm and caring attitude may help them.

Society these days is said to be a difficult environment for people with developmental disabilities to live in.

It is not easy to change the social environment, but we ask for your cooperation to help them in their lives, even if only a little.

And remember this.

They are trying their best. it is not for lack of trying.
