英検のWritingが新しくなるので、分析をしてみました

要約問題が２０２４年からスタート

自習中の皆さん、おつかれさまです。
２０２３年度末にようやく発表された、２０２４年度から導入される要約問題のディテールをもとにして、どのような問題かを分析していきます。
この記事で分析する問題のレベルは準１級を基準にします。

英検のサイトは以下の通りです。

要約問題とはどのような問題か

準１級のディテールは以下のリンクを参照してください。

Readingの設問が少なくなり、Writingのタスクが１つ追加されることになりました。時間配分は、削除される語彙問題７つ分とReadingのパッセージ１つ分の約１５分、ということになりそうです。

２００語ほどの英文を読み、それを自分の言葉で（引用することなく、パラフレーズで）６０から７０語にまとめる。

Readingパッセージの概要

  • 主題は、何か新たに実施されたルール、実用化された技術。

  • １段落目は、新たなものが何なのか（定義）とかその背景（理由）。

  • ２段落目は、新たなものがもたらした利点や支持する人々の考え。

  • ３段落目は、新たなものがもたらしてしまった弊害や反対意見。

何を書くべきか

基本的なポイントは以下の通りです。

  • 要約は本文より短い

  • 一つの段落でまとめる

  • 自分の考えや感想は不要

  • 引用はしない

具体的な文章構成

  1. トピックである、新しく導入された事柄は何か、それがなんの目的で導入されたかを述べる。

  2. 新たに導入されたことの利点をまとめる。複数ある場合は、つなぎの表現（例：alsoやin additionなど）を用いること。

  3. 新たに導入されたことに対する反論や弊害をまとめる。こちらの方が多い可能性があるので、文も複数になる可能性が高い。文頭には対比表現（例：howeverやin contrastなど）やつなぎの表現で文を論理的にまとめること。

  4. 結論は不要。

似たような問題をつくってみました

年末に合わせて、年始にオープンする店が増えてきました、というトピックのパッセージをつくってみました。２０２語の長さです。

パッセージの内容

利便性とアクセスのしやすさが最優先されるようになった消費習慣の変化へ対応するために、元旦もオープンする店が多くなってきた。忙しい人や、突然の需要が生じたときに、利便性を提供できることが利点である。しかし、業員への影響が懸念され、個人的な内省や家族との時間よりも消費主義が助長される恐れもある。

最後の段落がもう少し具体的な方がまとめるときに抽象的な語を使えたのに、という反省点はありますが、お許しください。

サンプルパッセージ

Stores typically close on New Year's Day to allow employees time to celebrate. However, modern consumer culture has led to a departure from this tradition. Increasingly, stores are choosing to remain open on this day, which is changing the traditional perception of the tranquil holiday. This alteration is a response to evolving consumer habits, where convenience and accessibility have become the top priority.

One advantage of stores opening on New Year's Day is the enhanced convenience it offers to consumers. This is especially beneficial for those with hectic schedules or unexpected last-minute needs. However, this departure from traditional closures has faced criticism. Firstly, there are concerns about the impact on employees. While some may appreciate the opportunity to work and potentially earn extra wages, others might feel pressured or obliged to forego personal celebrations to accommodate the extended hours. Critics also argue that people prioritize shopping over personal reflection and family time. This trend challenges societal values by emphasizing constant availability and consumption, which are not sustainable patterns of business and lifestyle.

要約のサンプル
