#6 My adorable younger brother

Hello, it’s Mei here. Today, I want to introduce you to my beloved dog, Kotarou. He joined our family when I was 12, which was 10 years ago. As of last February, he turned 10, so he’s now 10 years and 6 months old.

How Kotarou Became Part of Our Family
My sister and I had been asking our parents for a dog since we were in kindergarten. Whenever we visited our grandparents, we played with their dogs, Ryu and Momo, and we loved them dearly. The more time we spent with Ryu and Momo, the stronger our desire to have a dog of our own. Our wish finally came true just as I entered junior high school.

The story goes that Santa Claus delivered a doghouse and a food container for a dog for Christmas before Kotarou became a part of our family. My parents, sister, and I visited the pet store multiple times, and we were all enchanted by a small, adorable toy poodle. That was Kotarou. It felt like a fated encounter, and we couldn’t imagine choosing any other dog. After a week of deliberation, we named him Kotarou- a name my sister suggested, which everyone agreed upon.

Our Journey Together
When Kotarou first arrived, he acted like a shy little boy, but he quickly became like the king of our household. We think of him as a clever dog, though in reality, he is more charming than well-trained. We did try to teach him some commands like “sit” and “stay”, but he struggles with socializing with other dogs and still can’t resist his foodie nature. He was simply too cute for us to be too strict with him, so we spoiled him a lot over the past 10 years haha.

Despite his playful quirks, Kotarou has an incredible ability to understand us. Whenever I felt down or cried, he would come to me and snuggle close. I honestly don’t think I could have faced my struggles over the past decade without him.

Touching with nature🌊

Our Current Bond
Lately, I’ve been spending more time with Kotarou, making it a habit to take evening walks together. Though we can’t communicate through words, our bond is deep and heartfelt. Sometimes, it even feels like he understands me better than I understand myself. Kotarou is getting older, and he had to have 12 teeth removed due to severe decay. While I know the day when we’ll have to say goodbye, I hope he continues to be my wonderful, understanding younger brother for as long as possible.

I love you, Kotarou, and I’m excited to make more memories with you:)
